I'm saying is this actually a good movie? Maybe I just don't get why it is great or whatever.

Been a while since seeing it. Remember being impressed with how well directed it was.

Great, great film imo & well deserved Best Picture win in a very loaded year . Features one of the most terrifying villains ever put on screen played brilliantly by Bardem .

There's nothing wrong with it. Unfortunately, it prompted a fan & critical overrating of almost unprecedented enormity. 6/10

I love the movie, but it isn't for everyone. The movie is ponderous, and many might see it as anti-climactic and nihilistic, but regardless of the writing itself (which is right up my alley) the directing is pure craft. Cormac McCarthy's works are hard for some people to accept. I am even a fan of The Counselor which was panned by critics and audiences alike. The Counselor deals with similar themes of evil, nihilistic ideas and the consequences to our morally corrupt actions.

I used to think the movie was quite strong until a recent re-watch and I was a bit surprised I don't enjoy it nearly as much as I did on my previous viewing as it was a 9/10 and is now a 6/10 (a mild Thumbs Up). I can say with certainty I have seen the movie at least 4+ times (given I got three viewings on file which are all re-watches), but likely 5+. Feb 7th 2016 it was still a 9/10. it dropped back to it's current 6/10 for me on Oct 14th 2018.
it's weird how that stuff happens here and there where a movie you used to think was quite strong on quite a few re-watches suddenly just ain't nearly as interesting to watch overall.
NOTE: while I gave it a 6/10, I would say it's closer to a 5/10 than a 7/10. I would not be surprised if on another re-watch in roughly another 4-5 years or so from now that it shifts to a Thumbs Down.

A good, solid film, though it's no "Fargo"

Honestly, other than the chilling performance of Javier Barden, I didn't really care about the movie.

I'm saying is this actually a good movie? Maybe I just don't get why it is great or whatever. I thought it a good film, but I wouldn't re-watch it. If I did, I'd almost certainly not think it so good as the first time I saw it. Bardem was chilling as the killer. The nihilism of it stayed with me for a long time.

It was a great movie up to a point near the end. And then there was that dumb pretentious ending.
The first half or so of the movie was incredible though. It's quite a shame. It could have been one of the greatest movies of all time had they not totally screwed up the ending. The Cohens are stupid like that.

Amazing at how the hit man just happens to be going in the right direction to find the radio signal and how the drug cartel just somehow happen to find the guy with the money not once but twice.
What I don't get is why the hit man kept on killing those who hired him in the first place.

I think it's a great film, very thrilling and suspenseful with a memorably chilling villain. I don't know how you can't enjoy at least the part when he's in the hotel room alone, up to when he's firing on Anton behind the truck. That had me mesmerised the first time I saw it.
The only criticism of it I can understand is the second half and the way the ending unfolds, but I don't mind it myself.

I have always disliked the anticlimactic end to Llewelyn Moss. Outside of that I do enjoy the film but I’ll admit the first time I watch it that part left me perplexed and angry and thinking there were scenes missing.

What I don't get is why the hit man kept on killing those who hired him in the first place. I think it’s explained a bit better in the novel but I remember thinking the money was so much so that the hitman decides to go into business for himself.
