Inspired by Paint it, Black currently playing on the radio.
Pros - Gold mine of insults Performances Cinematography "Get some! Get some! Get some baby!" - One of those memorable one-scene characters.
Cons - As good as the rest of the film is, it can't live up to the first act.

Nope, the second act had some of the most powerful scenes in the movie (the gunner shooting down civilians, the female sniper beggin for death, the Michkey Mouse club song)

Pros R. Lee Ermey's magnificent performance. Ermey's colorful and memorable insults. Takes a somewhat realistic approach to war; does not glorify the war, and shows the ugliness of it all.
Cons The second half not being as powerful as the first half. Not exactly sure how I felt about the conclusion. The movie more or less just stopped rather than ended.

I know the second half isn't as good as the first, but it does have memorable stuff like the sniper attack in Hue City.

I actually think that the Number 1 Best Thing about "FULL METAL JACKET" is R. Lee Ermey's Performance.
I heard that while making it, Stanley Kubrick actually let Ermey add-lib some of his own lines (something which Kubrick NEVER did or allowed with other actors that has worked with on his other movies).

As a 3-act play, it's the law of diminishing returns, but the powerful boot camp act was tailor-made for Stanley Kubrick's cold, reconstructional style.
