David Caruso was fine in movies like "First Blood" and "Proof of Life". But then he joined CSI Miami and forgot how to act! Channeling his inner Chuck Norris, Caruso has now mastered just two facial expressions: sunglasses on and sunglasses off - and that's pretty much his entire repertoire!

Between films such as King of New York (1990) and Mad Dog and Glory (1993) he was a total badass, being both funny and tough as nails, but always likeable. Seeing him later on in CSI, he just comes off far too often, as a smug parody of his former self, trying too damn hard of being cool all the time. My favorite part of his is from the highly underrated De Niro comedy-romantic film Mad Dog and Glory, were Caruso steals a lot of scenes as Mike: "If I ever had an intelligent thought, I would die a lonely guy." the cocky and loyal friend of Wayne Dobie (Bobby D). The bar scene with Tom Towles as a women beating thug is priceless, and the whole fight scene later on with Mike Starr in Wayne's apartment, were they are trying to kill each other, but also by not wrecking up the whole place, is comedy gold.

This show seems to go on several times on Norwegian TV, and right now, just a few minutes ago, the very first random clip of Caruso is by him taking (dramatically) off his sunglasses, followed by a wannabe Clint Eastwood death staredown at some poor police officer. Then we have the final showdown with him putting the sunglasses on again. I guess the company who sells or make these sunglasses must have been putting in some heavy dough during the shows run.

It's hard to take that show seriously with Caruso's antics.

You're missing a big part in the middle- NYPD Blue and his film career attempt. This I know because it happened at that time of your life when you don't have a life. Your early teens.
See he was a success in NYPD Blue (I never watched it, it was 90s TV 😕). So successful, that he wanted to be a film actor, as up until recently that was the pinnacle (still kinda is). So he leaves NYPD Blue at the peak of its and his success for film. He was in a crime thriller named Kiss of Death. From there he went to the horrible 'Jade'. I actually saw this in the cinema. Awful film.
And with his film career in the toilet he went back to TV with his tail between his legs and starred in that NCIS garbage, where he curses himself for choosing the wrong scripts two decades ago.
Even more of a downfall is that of the director Abel Ferrara who employed Caruso in many of his early work. He really disappeared off the face of the earth. Oh but with him it was drugs probably.
