THE KEYS OF THE KINGDOM (1944) 4/5.
An American film based on the 1941 novel of the same name by AJ Cronin. The film was adapted by Nunnally Johnson, produced by Joseph L Mankiewicz and directed by John M Stahl.
It stars Gregory Peck, Vincent Price, Roddy McDowall, Rose Stradner, Thomas Mitchell, Benson Fong and Sir Cedric Hardwicke.
It's an engrossing film that becomes slightly sentimental near the end. It's well worth the journey, simply to see Gregory Peck, Vincent Price and Roddy McDowall strut their stuff.

It’s pretty good. Saw it once like five or six years ago. Interesting debut for the great Gregory Peck. Solid support by Thomas Mitchell and Vincent Price in a rare nonvillanous appearance. Half expecting Peck and the one nun (forgot her name) to break their vows.

If the film were made now, they probably would, regardless of when the film was set.
I think I'd find a more modern version less... satisfying.
