ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS (1957) 3/5.
A black-and white American science fiction film, with a strong influence of horror as well. The screenplay by Charles B Griffith was the first of many he would write for filmmaker Roger Corman, who produced and directed this feature.
The plot concerns a scientific expedition that is sent to a remote Pacific island to discover what happened to the scientists of an earlier scientific expedition. Unknown to them, the island is inhabited by a pair of gigantic, intelligent crabs that have been mutated by radiation from nearby testing of atomic bombs.
The film stars Richard Garland, Pamela Duncan, Russell Johnson, Leslie Bradley, Mel Welles, Richard H Cutting and Charles B Griffith in a cameo appearance as Tate - the first victim of the giant crabs. Surprisingly, this film is nowhere near as bad as it sounds. And with a running time of just 62 minutes, it doesn’t take too long to finish either.
