Anyone else got this? Was waiting for ages to see if we'd get some pristine collectors edition set or something but finally succumbed and bought the 3 disc set this week.
Anyway, couldn't believe when I opened it up and the War For The Planet Of The Apes blu ray disc wasn't even the same design as the other two! It's just a plain silver disc with just the title on it, rather than picture artwork of Caeser on it! They must have just taken unsold Rise / Dawn double pack stock and repackaged it!
I guess it doesn't really make any odds but so, so cheap from the retailers...
I love physical media, but I am seriously considering going full digital. What you've mentioned is one of many reasons.
Remember when your discs didn't come in eco cases? When the cover art wasn't tissue paper thin? When movies came with inserts? And yes, when they put art on the discs and didnt cut corners, repackaging old unsold product as you mentioned.
Pick up a dvd that was sold in 2000 and the case is like a fucking brick. It's solid, hard plastic. The cover art is on thick card stock, the disc has artwork on it, and there is an insert that shows the chapter list.
Those days are dead. Ive hung on a long time, but they've killed my movie buying soul. I've purchased almost 20 movies on Amazon now. I didn't want it to be this way.

Yeah, very true. If you don't get any added value from physical media then there's no point buying it.
But I'm sure there would be a market for a quality set, I guess like the Criterion Collection stuff, with an artwork booklet or something beyond the old chapter cards. I guess it's a bit like the vinyl revival, ultimately it's nice to have something tangible of a piece of art, music / film, you love.
