I'll never understand why Black Mask is so popular with DC. He's just a gangster with a skull head. He had a major villain role in the animated Under the Red Hood as well, which is widely and rightfully considered a classic, but for the life of me I cannot work up any enthusiasm for the character at all.

Fans love the color black and skulls. So if you combine the two you create a fan favorite character.
It's like they're still twelve years old.

Bold move to use a big actor who won’t be showing their face. They did this in Darkman but he created fake skin to make him look like he used to before he got burned. Debbie said Black Mask can’t take his mask off because his skin gets burned off and the mask gets stuck to his face taking the form of a skull because his face is a skull underneath. That's one ugly dude.

I think that's one of his versions maybe a few but he's not always had it fused to his face, also doubt they will keep the actor hidden all movie long.

Ewan McGregor is an interesting choice. I have seen a number of his movies including the ones you have as your avatar but I can honestly say I don't recall him playing many villains and in most movies I have seen him in he is good and I am surprised they didn't try and get him to play a superhero role instead. He is not somebody who I would have imagined as Black Mask but hopefully he pulls it off and not to take away from Black Mask but I am hoping the sites that are saying there will be more than one villain are right 'cause the team shouldn't have any trouble taking him down 'cause he has never been a highly skilled fighter and Batman, Nightwing, Batgirl and Red Hood have all taken him down themselves. I think the best route to go with Black Mask would be to take a page out of Arkham Origins (which we know wasn't him and was just the Joker pretending to be Black Mask ) and have him hire multiple villains to try and kill the Birds of Prey 'cause that would open the doors for them to use multiple villains and they could have them go face to face with Black Mask at the end after they have defeated the other villains

Yeah, you don't cast someone like Ewan McGregor and hide his face for the entire time. He might be like Hugo Weaving in Captain America, where we see his real face for about 2/3 of a way through the movie and the last third he'll wear the mask.

I suppose but the mask is such a big part of the character. I mean it is the second half of his name and if they have Roman walking around without it for the majority of the movie you are going to have people asking why he is called Black Mask unless they use 'Birds of Prey' as some type of origins story for him and at the end of the movie his face is burned and disfigured and he can no longer take off the mask 'cause that way you could show Ewan's face more at the beginning. I am still not sure what I think about Ewan in the role though and I like the idea of having him in a DC movie but why as a villain and not a superhero like Green Lantern? I feel the same way about the Rock playing Black Adam and think he would be better cast as Martian Manhunter in his own movie.

Weird choice (just as weird as Kristen Wiig for Cheetah) and yeah i forgot it would be just a voice unless they have a flashback. Could surprise us, decent actor in any case.

Who is Kristen Wiig when she is at home and what movies was she in? I thought you said Kristin Chenoweth was going to be in Wonder Woman?

Who is Kristen Wiig when she is at home and what movies was she in? I thought you said Kristin Chenoweth was going to be in Wonder Woman? Yeah. That is her. Not Kristin Chenoweth. She would look really out of place as a supervillain. I am still not sure if Kristen Wig is the best choice for the role 'cause Cheetah is meant to be a very physical character who can fight and push Wonder Woman to the limit in their fights and unless she is spending a lot of time training now I don't think Kristen is experienced enough with fighting to pull off the role and they should have gone with somebody who knew martial arts. I think somebody like Yvonne Strahovski would have been a better choice for Cheetah but I also think she would have been a better choice for the Black Canary and Captain Marvel too. While I dislike a lot of the Katie Cassidy haters and don't think she is as bad of an actress as they made out she was 'Arrow' could have been heaps better if they had made Yvonne Dinah Laurel Lance and made her the Black Canary from day one. She could have made Black Canary's fighting scenes look really badass and done the moves she does in the comic books like the flying kick.

I trust Patty Jenkins choice. And Kristen has a lot of time to get in shape. Plus comedians have a rich history of giving surpringly serious and dark performances.

There have been a number of actors who have been mostly known for their Comedy roles that have done great jobs of playing serious and scary roles and Kristen might do a good job as Cheetah and I will give her a chance but I am just hoping they don't play down her fighting skills or make her a crappy fighter 'cause a lot of superhero movies and TV shows have done that with female characters or depowered them. We have all seen how much of a useless fighter the 'Arrowverse' made the Black Canary when she was one of the best martial artists in DC and they de-powered Saturn Girl down something fierce when she is meant to be the most powerful psychic superhero and can go inside people's minds and control their bodies. I am looking forward to finding out more about the movie but I am even more interesting in hearing more details about 'Wonder Woman: Bloodlines' since we know next to nothing about it and it is coming out this year. Hopefully we get an update about that soon.

Hopefully we get an update about that soon. Thing is a lot of the times those performances are done by comedic actors who also show a great skill even in their comedic roles, Williams even in his comedies could pull out some moving scenes, I have not seen enough of Wiig to comment on whether she has or hasn't done that herself, but I mean her co-star in several comedic films Melissa McCarthy just got nominated for a shitload of awards for a serious role, so who knows.
I would say though maybe don't expect a comedian to put on a serious performance in a comicbook movie in which she becomes a anthropomorphic cheetah, the depowering thing all depends, if Wiig cant do the stunts and it's too difficult to insert her double for fight scenes it's beyond their control at that point, the BC thing still annoys me and I blame the fans more than the show for that, people bitched about Laurel for 2 seasons, I mean they set her up in S1E1 I think as being able to already kick guys butts but because people moaned S2 saw her not develop this, more focus went onto OTA, Laurel had the addiction storyline, but again people bitched because they didn't get that Laurel was meant to be a bitch in S3 that's why they had that rare scene of Oliver sacking up and calling her on her shit, it wasn't accidental douchebaggery like Felicity, so then Guggy got control and made Laurel an overpaid extra and just rushed through her shit, so really blame the fans for being fuckwits on that one, as for Saturn Girl eh that's common sense really, if she was a main cast member or a 1 off guest star they could full power her because she was either not going to be around all the time or she was going to be a mainstay, you make her a reoccurring guest star that naturally means they need to devalue her as otherwise she would overshadow the lead and when she left it's like wait what the best character is leaving? fuck you!!
What are your thoughts Deb about the recent comments about WW 84, where it was said it's not a continuation or a sequel but a new story where we see where Diana goes from where we left her after WW1, which sounds like a sequel to me, one thing I kind of thought is what if the tone of the films takes inspiration from a different age of Wonder Woman, like ok that was bronze age Wonder Woman, then we did modern age Wonder Woman now lets try silver age Wonder Woman, like the core of the character remains the same but each film kind of highlights more of a certain age's nuances to the character, but it's probably just hyperbole anyway and WW84 will be just a sequel, Hollywood types, I tell yah they just talk to talk sometimes.

I think sequels have a bad reputation, so studios try to avoid saying a film is a sequel. It's the same reason they call a remake a re imagining.
