I didn't curse at all when I was a teenager or even into my 20s and 30s. But in recent years, I find myself uttering more and more off-color words (and not just when I'm driving). I have an elderly aunt who has frequently used a lot of "hells" and "damns" over the years, but only recently has been cultivating the "f-word." Is this normal? I always thought people tended to get more circumspect about their language as they matured. Or is it more common for people to just say (literally) "F*** it. I've lived this long, and I don't have any little kids around me, so I can say whatever I want!"?

Less, I guess. I find it annoying how people overuse swear words. The word shit is way overused. I mean, everything seems to be "shit" to people now. Bad things are shit. Good things are shit too. Even neutral things are shit.
"Have you tried this dip? It's pretty good shit!"
"Yeah, I tried it. It's shit. I like that other shit over there better."
Conversations like this would be really puzzling to an alien species listening in... Especially if they interpreted the word with its literal meaning.

They found us, listened to our speech, and flew far away to the other side of the cosmos.

I sure do, but I always thought it was because my kids started reaching their teens.

One thing that does bother me re: swearing is just how commonplace it’s become. You hear the “f-word” everywhere you go (or at least I do). And no one even looks up when someone screams it. It’s just bizarre.

Seriously, I was at a Panera Bread the other day, and there were these young girls in line, and one of ‘em just screamed probably every one of Carlin’s seven dirty words. No one in the place batted an eyelash.

It sort of makes me uncomfortable at times.

less. I live with Christians who don't cuss at all.
Unfortunately, it's rubbed off on me and and I'm not cussing as much as I used to.
especially with a 3 year old around.

Anyone who might have objected is now dead, so I'm finally free to swear all I want.
