Do you prefer reading a book about someone's life written by the person themselves (or with the aid of a 'ghost writer'), or do you prefer those written by someone other than the subject ?? SAVE FERRIS

Doesn't matter. Whichever I find more of a fascinating read. I can always think to myself "you liar" or google information I'm skeptical about.

Autobiographies are always more interesting.

I found a biography of Phil Hartman at Dollar Tree.

Bio. They read more objectively, & from the pov of a fan of the subject, which is the reason for my reading them in the first place.
Only one autobiography has stood out for me, Bret Hart's, not least all the classic never before told stories - which actually has him a bit third party pov himself that way.

I happen to be reading Katharine Hepburn's "Me" right now. It's the nearest thing to an autobiography from her. It's told as a collection of anecdotes from her life. It starts with her family history but after that is barely organized. The photos are all undated, which is infuriating. Not all the stories are fascinating, some are tedious.
One fun thing about it is that it sounds just like her, you can hear that breezy voice narrating it as you read it. She admits to being an egotist and selfish "pig" when it comes to her first husband, whom she took for granted. She dispels a couple of racy rumors and is frank about where her performances were weak. So far there is very little about Spencer Tracy.
One thing I don't get is a sense of why she wanted to become an actress, what drove her to undertake something that was so hard to succeed in. There's little clue from her upbringing except that she was always independent.
She doesn't analyze herself enough - is she shallow? I am left wanting more and would like to read a biography from third party. And so I think biographies are superior to autobiographies.

It depends entirely on how well the book is written. Either one can be either interesting or boring.
