It seems as if, as far back as the invention of the first mirror... Mirrors have been believed to be full of mysteries & horrors. Many people practice a custom of covering up mirrors during funerals so that the deceased spirits will not get trapped inside them... ( Captain Smith? Perhaps?) And for centuries, Mirrors have been the subject of Stories, and more recently: Movie & TV Shows, as being gateways to the paranormal and other dimensions... Supposedly, in the “Bloody Mary” Urban Legend, if you say the phrase three times in front of a Mirror, a scary image of Mary will appear... But, let's face it... Most people don't go around just randomly saying scary phrases like that... and so, paranormal beings shouldn't just be regularly appearing along side our reflections. All though... When I walk past the mirror in the bathroom, and I see my reflection in the corner of my eye, and I do get a bit unsettled... I still know, I have never seen anything, even looking straight at it, to make me think there is something unusual going on... Scientifically, mirrors are easily explainable and there is nothing supernatural as to how we see our reflections in them, and why astronomers use them in telescopes, ETC... So what's the deal? What is it about Mirrors, that makes them so Mysterious & so "Scary" to so many? Do we have "something" embedded into our "genetic memories", that prompts our subconscious to make us fear them? One does have to wonder, how did all this fear about mirrors get started, and continues for so many, even in today's knowledgeable world... THOUGHTS?

I think it just has to do with how creepy something really is when you actually experience it. people say talking to yourself is creepy and I guess it is in a way . but imagine how creepy it is when you actually see your reflection in a mirror for the very first time I remember when I first started seeing mine "it was like I was looking at another me " overtime people find humor like "Oh wow do I really look like that" but there is just something eerie about looking into a mirror for the first time and seeing "Yourself looking back at Yourself"
I remember reading Abe Lincoln had a creepy experience with a mirror if I find the article again i'll post it in this thread

Creepy things mirrors for sure... Horror film writers know this, and regularly use them to great effect.
We've all walked past a mirror somewhere and caught something out of the corner of our eye that makes you do a double take.
Never look in a mirror illuminated by just a candle 👻

MCDemuth here's what I was talking about "A queer dream or illusion had haunted Lincoln at times through the winter. On the evening of his election he had thrown himself on one of the haircloth sofas at home, just after the first telegrams of November 6 had told him he was elected president, and looking into a bureau mirror across the room he saw himself full length. but with two faces."
It bothered him, he got up and the illusion vanished but when he layed down again there in the glass were two faces, one paler than the other. He got up again mixed in the election excitement, forgot about it but it came back and haunted him he told his wife about it and it worried her too."
"a few days later he tried it once more and the illusion of the two faces again registered to his eyes. but that was the last . the ghost since then wouldn't come back. he told his wife who said it was a sign he would be elected to a second term and the death pallor of one face meant he wouldn't live through his second term"

Yes, as you say, they do many things. Some act as portals to reach other dimensions, some offer a window in to the soul, some provide gateways for intruders, some capture the essence of the looker like a photograph, some possess while others release, then there's mirrors that duplicate the looker (though not always as the looker perceived themselves to be) ... a hall of mirrors can reflect many different things.

In The Whispered World, Sadwick must break a mirror at the end of the game.
