I'm looking at it a bit different. I think Rachel was more shocking. Especially from a writing standpoint. When they killed off Alice at the start of Friday the 13th part 2 they had a solid final girl in Ginny waiting in the wings. While Rachel isn't technically the final girl in Halloween V, she did serve as the adult to go along with Jamie. When they killed her off who did they put in that role? Tina. Probably the most hated character in the series.

Rachel surprised me more. Especially replacing her with Tina

But we’re looking at shock value, and to me at least, it was shocking in the opening of F13 Pt 2 when Alice dies so abruptly. Rachel isn’t even the main character of H4. But yes, her death was more disappointing.
