I just generally rip all my music myself from lossless (i.e. FLAC etc) to a lossy (i.e. Opus/AAC etc) format using Foobar2000. I use Opus since it's the best lossy format there is right now. I suggest 96kbps as a default setting with 64kbps as a minimum and 128kbps as a maximum with Opus v1.3. basically pick one of those three settings depending on storage space etc.
after that's done I just transfer the music files (as I manually organize stuff that I have full albums of etc as the single songs I just tend to bunch in the root of a folder etc) to a MicroSD card and then play the music using Foobar2000 mobile app.

Can foobar2000 edit files and id tags? My default music app can only read artist names half the time and places it as "Unknown Artist" after I copied them from pc to mobile. It has no edit feature. Never happened with my previous phone, different model but same manufacturer. I would like to correctly edit the artist names. I've got hundreds of songs with "unknown artist" but can only recognize less than half of the artists due to the song name. Too bad VLC can't edit either.

No worries I just used a tag editor after discovering foobar2000 and AIMP have no editing features.

loofapotatoI know you can get CD info using Foobar2000... 'Tagging > Get tags from freedb' ; but that likely only works well on full CD's which is about all I use it for. so for individual songs it's probably not going to work all that well I suspect. but I know you can manually edit that sort of stuff etc (right click your music file and select 'Properties' and on the Metadata tab you adjust things accordingly) even though it would be a chore to if you got plenty of songs.

Well yeah on a computer but what I wanted to do was to edit the mp3 tags on a phone that has been already transfered to it where the default music player has problems identifying them. So I had to use an app specific to tag editing instead.
