Deep Star Six (1989) Blu/dvd media book Wow, that is a pretty damn impressive work of art, sadly with many germans movies and albums, they seems to "love" screwing thing up with the "stickers" on top, which kind of "ruins" some of the magic. I remember having the same problem with the great album artwork of Thomas Dolbys - The Golden Age of Wireless (1982) and some german remastered 2009 CD, and I was kind of upset they did throw that blue sticker on, which you could not just "pick" away, it was there forever. Anyway, I did re-watch both The Abyss "clones" Deep-Star Six and Leviathan earlier this year, and gotta be honest, I thought Leviathan (1989) were the far better one, but where as Miguel Ferrer did one hell of a job in Deep-Star Six, and I also thought the monster was far more enjoyable than in Leviathan.

Outside of releasing their blurays uncut, the Germans really do decorate their media books. There were two releases, but the above case was the only cover available. The second cover looked like this; In regards to the rating sticker on the front. For more recent releases they must have listened to criticism, because it was an easy peel sticker which left no marks. I use to like ‘Leviathan’ the most of these underwater creature features. But over time ‘Deep Star Six’ surpassed it, yet my favourite of the lot is still the hokey ‘Endless Descent’.

I think the first one, is the better, but however if the second one had erased the actors above the striking sea monster from below, I might actually had gone with that instead, as sometimes less is more, when it comes to movie posters or DVD/Blu-ray artwork.
When I re-watched Leviathan earlier this year, one of my big disappointments was how poor or, just not all impressive the monster were, specially considering that I think Stan Winston worked on the film, and it just looked so "random", like no where near his classic stuff. Maybe it was because of budget or not enough time, but I actually enjoyed the monster in Deep Star Six a bit more, even though Leviathan sure were the better movie, or so I thought.

Opened up couple more boxes some of them put aside for close to a year. All blurays except for the two Bruno Mattei zombie flicks.
(1984) Beat Street (1981) Bloody Birthday (Arrow) (1981) The Other Hell (2007) Zombies: The Beginning (2006) Island of the Living Dead (1974) Beyond the Door (Code Red) (1976) Grizzly
Grizzly and Beat Street are a couple of my favorites.

Grizzly sure is a lot of fun, and a very underrated "Jaws with claws" kind of horror-thriller, along with a great cast, music and surely has to be the best grizzly/bear "slasher" of the 70 and 80s.
Beat Street is one I only ended up with, because of the sweet Rae Dawn Chong. However, it turned out the movie was very enjoyable, and while not a huge fan of hip-hop and rap music, I would gladly take any of the 80s and early 90s, over much of the stuff I hear these days. The film had a huge beating heart going, lots of charm and so much cool music scenes, dancing and, yeah, and it seemed like it was a very different approach to the music genre, instead of being "cool" and the whole boring "gangstah" stick, that I despise most of the time.
Also nice to see Saundra Santiago in the movie, I think beside her lovely role as Gina from Miami Vice, I have never really seen her in anything else, which is kind of weird, since she was such a beautiful and lovely woman in the series.

Picked up a used copy of Freaked (1993) on DVD and cannot wait to rewatch this gem and check out the special features. Man it’s been a while but I feel like I still remember everything about this weird little beast.

"Black Plague" (2002) Shelved and released in 2014. Riding on the success of "GOT". Good locations and costumes. More of a melodrama. And not a horror film. It's on Prime. It's okay.Bit of a mess. But not great.
