"Lucas, I'm coming back to tear your world apart... I'm going to fuck you up!" Detective Lucas McCarthy (Lance Henriksen) is the man responsible of locking away the ruthless serial killer, "Meat Cleaver" Max (Brion James) and he just can't wait to see that justice are finally being served. But unlucky for Lucas and his family, it turns out that not even hell can hold on to a sadistic scumbag like Max Jenke, and he will make sure to greet the McCarthy's a friendly "varm" welcome in their new house.I caught this on a Scandiavian DVD back in 2006, named House III: The Horror Show, and I guess someone wanted to cash in on the success of the two first House films, and sure there are several scenes that takes places in a house, but beside that it feels more like an attempt on going after some of the audience that loved the Nightmare on Elm Street series. Anyway, I felt it was a nice surprise seeing Lance Henriksen in a leading role, and having Brion James in the part as Max Jenke. Of course both have played their fair share of bad guys, but the chemistry between the two was really good and I loved how Brion James kept throwing out all these hilarious quotes along with his evil and very funny rat laughter, which he uses all the time to taunt Lucas: "Neeeheeeheeeheee" The special effects is actually pretty well done and while I am not sure which film came out first but Wes Craven's Shocker (1989) had a similar plot, but I have never seen it, so cannot say for sure. I really enjoyed The Horror Show, with it's entertaining mix of comedy, horror and action sequences and while maybe not a hidden gem, it is however one that might be worth checking out for fans of 80s horror films, or of actors such as Lance and Brion. Scream Factory released the film on DVD/Blu-ray combo back in 2013.

Funny thing that my copy calls it "House 3"

Saw this a bunch of times on cable years ago. A very good slasher flick. But North American audiences would have zero clue that it was related to the House series, which really, it's not. In Europe I believe it was called House III but just The Horror Show here. And then we got House IV, which made many people wonder why they never released a House III. House IV was at least connected to the first two movies, I think, I never saw it. Confusing, right!?

Recently rewatched the entire House series, plus The Horror Show, which maintains its greatness. Will never grasp the idea of marketing it as House III though. House IV, my first time seeing it, was wretched, however.

Being a movie completist weirdo, this Halloween season I've been trying to finish certain movie series that I never did finish. House IV was one of those I never did see, so I rewatched all of them prior. It's definitely the weakest link, I hate when a movie sequel doesn't properly acknowledge its own history.

House IV was the one which I never could find (I always seemed to stumble upon the first three, which were released on DVD in scandinavia, but none of the fourth film) still, I did know early on that Roger Cobb would be back, but sadly it was not done in a very good way, especially for those who enjoyed the first film. I "finally" saw it during this summer, but I did not like it very much either.

Both this and House 4 are free to watch on YouTube, that is if you're in the Canadian region. Thought this movie was pretty okay as a standalone, psychological, Elm Street-like film. Lance is great as always, even in the shittiest of his film choices, but the acting from Max was pretty silly, and not in the best way (though his real life death is very tragic). It also has some extreme law-breaking physics that are too unbelievable even by movie standards. Overall it was just fine. Not good, not awful, just fine. House IV, on the other hand, I was very bored throughout. It's the only film that has some connection to the original with William Katt back as Roger. Or is he, really? Such wasted potential IMO. Man, what a weird, weird franchise.
