I'm not sure if you're trying to be sarcastic or something here, but I was just going off the intro in that very article: "Rural noirβ is a 21st-century term used to describe a stream of American literature that has been flowing since the 19th century. Weβve had dark, dangerous stories set in the countryside since William Leggettβs 1827 tale The Rifle" Never heard the term before, I have to say.

Have tried many time to get on with the James Lee Burke books but can never get through one. Wouldn't Joe R Lansdale fit in too? Lansdale is one that i've wanted to read for a long time; what do you rec?

Long time since I read him but "The Bottoms" and "Freezer Burn" I remember enjoying and you could give the first "Hap and Leonard" book "Savage Season" a go and if you like the characters there's another twenty odd in the series to keep you going.
