The only reason he was hired in the first place was because of how much money Jurassic World made.

It was fucked up how many turned on Colin after his The Book of Henry film bombed.

A long while back, I had heard a very disturbing story about why Colin Trevorrow was replaced (I still to this day though don't know if the story is true or not) but what I had heard was that originally, JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan had actually indeed come up with an entire story line for this New "STAR WARS" Trilogy with a Beginning, Middle, and End with JJ Abrams directing the Beginning Part. It was then told to Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow and they both agreed to follow through with the story line with their films.
JJ Abrams then went on to make "THE FORCE AWAKENS" and then things moved on to Rian Johnson, but Johnson suddenly decided to do his own thing with his "STAR WARS" Movie (and for some reason Kathleen Kennedy actually liked it and gave him the okay) and so we got "THE LAST JEDI". At some point, Colin Trevorrow asked both Johnson and Kennedy not to kill off Luke Skywalker, they refused and Trevorrow continued to protest and so they dropped him from doing "EPISODE IX".

That's the same story I read.

I don't get the hate towards Colin Trevorrow. I do understand he was hired by Kathleen Kennedy because of his success of Jurassic World, which was produced by her husband, Frank Marshall. It was rumored that he wanted Luke Skywalker and Snoke kept alive and he has plans for Rey's character that made Daisy Ridley break into tears. He also wanted to make Leia a central character, which understandably had to go away. Knowing how much I hated the way Luke died, I do wish to know the full details of what Trevorrow had planned out.

The parties on record stated different things. RJ said that he from the beginning was free to do what he wanted and there were no planned story-structure (which corresponds with what JJ Abrams does when setting up stores - see Lost, ST). JJ Abrams stated that he was impressed with the VIII script when reading it (even before VII was released).
All this theory does is to shift blame on RJ alone. Which is false: Much of the nonsense was caused by - Disney pushing for a quick release of the new trilogy without proper concept development time (culminating in firing Arndt as writer), - pushing in JJ Abrams - the arguably most uncreative rehasher in Hollywood - as director AND writer, - by having Kennedy playing it save, pushing her political agenda without care for the SW lore (which I share but despise in SW), - with them writing a hack job of a EpVII scriptc.
In the end RJ essentially shat out what Abrams & Co had produced. I know what Abrams plan for VIII and IX was: the plot synopis of Empire and Jedi with the names replaced with the new characters. George Lucas studied pilosophy, history and mythology to create his pulpy SW universe, JJ Abrams & Co essentially studied Lucas and rehased his work.

Whatever happened to Tristan's Journal? It's a shame he stopped posting.

I don't know. Looks like his account is still open. But he seems to have gone inactive indefinitely. I do miss his posts though.
