Johnny Cash 'Hurt' is better than the original Nine Inch Nails version.
Fight me on this.

I love to hear my late beautiful precious Steve Sanders of the Oak Ridge Boys cover "I'll Put Angels Around You" from the Dr. Hook act. God bless you and those who have loved him longer than me always!!! Holly

Agree about "Hurt." It's quite moving, especially in conjunction with the video.
I prefer the Cheap Trick version of "California Man" to the original by the Move.
I also prefer the Ramones version of "California Sun."

I've heard the originals and I much prefer the Judas Priest versions:
Agree about "The Green Manalishi."
Disagree about "Diamonds and Rust." The original is haunting and beautiful.

I've performed the Priest version of "Diamonds and Rust" live and I think it's much more fun to rock out.

I kind of prefer Pantera's version of "Planet Caravan" than the version by Black Sabbath (which is fine for what it is).

I grew up with "The Irish Rovers" album, " Children Of The Unicorn", which was released in 1976. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children_of_the_UnicornThis album, which was intended for children, did feature a few covers of some famous songs... I believe that "The Irish Rovers" cover versions of the THREE songs featured below are better than the originals... Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I heard these versions first... or... maybe not! It's my opinion that "The Irish Rovers" version of "Snoopy vs The Red Baron" is better than the original "Royal Guardsman" version.... It's my opinion that "The Irish Rovers" version of the "Purple People Eater" is FAR better than the original "Sheb Wooley" version... It's my opinion that "The Irish Rovers" version of "Puff, The Magic Dragon" is better than the original "Peter, Paul and Mary" version... And we know that with this cover being released on a children's album, we really do know that the meaning of lyrics are meant to about a dragon named Puff... And not possibly be some secret message about using drugs... LOL!

I also prefer the Ramones version of "California Sun." That was their best cover song imo and the Ramones covered many songs throughout their lengthy career.

. Prefer Barry White's slightly lusher and more romantic cover of Billy Joel's original although the lyrics still amuse me with moments of good old-fashioned 'I'm in charge, Girl' sexism.
