I voted for PlayStation 2, it was the system i've spent the most time on. Especially with games like Final Fantasy X and XII.
Xbox definitely was the best for online gaming on the home consoles.

After all these years I'd still say Final Fantasy X was my favourite game of all time. That or Grand Theft Auto V.

Guys, don't hate, but this by far my least favorite console generation. We'd just lost Sega as a hardware manufacturer and were suddenly stuck with leviathans Sony, Microsoft, and poor Nintendo, who'd suddenly become the Weird Kid despite being synonymous with the industry for the past twenty years.
And everyone just bought a god damn PS2 for the "free" DVD player despite it having the longest load times, the shittiest graphics by far, and the fact that Sony just steamrolled the entire video game market with PSone using salt-the-earth Wal Mart business tactics and leveraging their multiple divisions over honest/actual companies like Sega. So FUCK fucking PS2 and everything it represents, which is basically video games becoming mainstream trash for morons.
On the other hand, GameCube's library was terrible and Xbox was a clunky mess. I call for a vote of No Confidence in all three of them. I know that, to people of a certain age, this was some kind of holy trinity, but to me it was the point past which I never cared as much about games/gaming again despite disinterestedly owning a 360 a few years later.
Around 2014, I got the retro bug and bought myself a NES, a Genesis (with 32x and CD add-ons), a Saturn, and a Dreamcast, along with a 360 and an Xbox One. The era in question is conspicuous by its absence. Innit? Because fuck all three.

Just PS2, because it was the console that gutted the gaming industry as I knew it and reshaped it into a Sony-centric shitfest. GameCube and Xbox I more so perceived in terms of lost potential. You know?

I did like how Microsoft pushed for online play even going with the Ethernet cable when everyone believed it wouldn't take off. In a weird way it was like Microsoft wanted to continue what Sega started with the Dreamcast.

In a weird way it was like Microsoft wanted to continue what Sega started with the Dreamcast. I know. In many ways Xbox is a spiritual successor to the Dreamcast. That's partially why I support Microsoft even though it's prolly the inferior system/platform between the two of them today. The other reason is just an abject disdain for Sony for destroying what video games used to be and a complete refusal to give them a dime.

PlayStation 2 is the best game console of all time, but the GameCube and Xbox are both amazing consoles as well.
I think this was the absolute best gaming generation. There was a ton of variety and all three console manufacturers were bringing their A game. They also had online features without them being crammed down your throat.

But I hypocritically bought a Cube because it supported some exclusive games (mostly StarWars and the Zeldas) I could not afford not to play. Looking back, I consider the library of the Cube "mandatory supplemental", not terrible.

There were a lot more companies/consoles in the mix and it seemed like a lot more boundaries were broken, although in that latter sense that period was admittedly inferior to the PSone/N64/Saturn era, since those systems largely pioneered 3d console gaming, but I would counterargue that games from that generation don't hold up as well today as shit like Contra 3, Mortal Kombat, any of those arcade-style TMNT beat 'em ups, or Street Fighter II. But yeah: Genesis (and all its add-ons), SNES, TurboGrafx-16, Neo Geo, etc. -- that was my shit.

Devs would also occasionally leave content out of the Xbox versions of games and release it as free DLC. I'm really not sure why, but it didn't happen very often.

I agree that the Genesis/SNES generation aged better than the PS/N64/Saturn era for the most part. Largely due to the fact that devs hadn't nailed 3D movement yet. Platformers are probably the genre that has aged the best from the N64/PS/Saturn era.
