I remember a movie about a dog named Benji. I remember him living with an old man on a lake somewhere I believe and I think he rescues someone when their canoe rolled in the lake. Anyone know this one?

k1385 Except for the movie that is coming out this year... The only "Benji" movie that I have NOT seen is: "Benji: Off the Leash!" (2004)And so, I can't help you with that one... No other "Benji" movie, that I know of, matches the exact plot details that you describe... However...It has been a while since I have seen: "Benji the Hunted" (1987)"Benji"...may...have "rescued someone when their canoe rolled in the lake"... But, as I recall, he was NOT "living with an old man on a lake somewhere"... Movie Star, Benjean (The Dog Who Plays Benji), was separated from her owners, and was lost in the wilderness... "Benji" had one of those "Incredible Journey" type adventures... At the end of the film, Benhean & The Owners are reunited...
Could this be the film, you are thinking of? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benji

I think I was wrong about living with the old man but I do recall an older man calling him right at the beginning of the movie it looked like they were on a river and Benji jumped out maybe I think in a canoe
Sorry I'm so vague I just can't remember many details

The infamous Benji the Hunted--catalyst for an argument between Siskel and Ebert. Roger gave it thumbs up, but gave Full Metal Jacket a thumbs down on the same show-making Gene very upset that he could rate Benji higher than Kubrick!

I bought the original Benji on dvd not long ago for $1.00. Haven't seen since I was kid and am looking forward to viewing it. I saw For The Love Of Benji- 77' first, but was bored by that one, but when I saw Benji about 2yrs later I knew it was a classic. Haven't seen a Benji film in a donkey's years. I'd forgotten that there was a short-lived television series in the early Eighties called Benji, Zax & the Alien Prince. The premise was as follows: Far distant from Earth on a red planet of Antars, a tyrant Zanu has killed their king and imprisoned the queen. The crown prince, their son, named Yubi (Christopher Burton) has escaped to Earth in a company of the droid Zax (voiced by Ric Spiegel), where they have become friends with a stray dog named Benji. No chance of this having been inspired by Star Wars mania at all, we can be certain . Benji was a cute little mutt, though, and although the films vary a lot in quality that adorable face was enough to get you into the theater every time.

“whatismymovie.com” came back with a 2000 TV movie called The Trial of Old Drum, in which a dog rescues a boy who fell into a lake. Could that be it?
