What is the earliest example of the situation where someone promises to do or not do something-then goes back on his word, and when challenged about it, the character replies: "I lied."
Everyone knows what happened to that funny guy Sully in Commando, but Captain Kirk used the "I lied" line in Star Trek 3. By the time THE MASK 1994 used it, it was really old.
So how far back does it go? Any other notable examples?
I remember the late 70s, early 80s comic book series 2000 AD has an example from its JUDGE DEATH LIVES! story line. I assume there must be some more famous ones either in radio or film or literary form.
