I've been excited for the second season since the end of the first!

The "comedy" is cringe worthy. I hope season 2 is better than the first. It's obviously a labor of love though so I appreciate it for that. Voice acting aside, MacFarlane is a pretty shitty actor tho.

This show was better than i expected. I mean its not a masterpiece of a show or anything, but its a decent show.
I will watch season 2.

I thought the first season was a very entertaining rip off of the best of Star Trek. The comedy was subpar and juvenile. The critics slaughtered and pulverized it.
I am exited how season 2 develops.

Excellent series, imo the best sci-fi of the last few years. Been climbing the walls waiting for this since the end of season one. Delighted that it is finally almost here!

So what did everyone think? The new girl is hot, and Alara was looking extra good. I didn't care for the storyline with the kids, but I laughed out loud several times. Can't ask for much more than that. I love these characters. I can't wait for Thursday. The premier was just okay, it had it's moments. It probably should have been left as the season 1 finale. I thought the funniest part was Ed doing the drive by. I didn't care for the kids stuff either, but I tend to dislike kids in shows. I also hate love triangles. I was disappointed by the ending. The Ja'loja was built up a lot and then it's just Bortus standing on a cliff and he yells. It felt like setup for a punchline that isn't there.

I thought the first episode was great. It's nice to see an ep where the galaxy is not in danger of being destroyed or something.

slow start, but ok, 6/10.
I always have to get used to the blatant rip off of Trek and the legality of it, nostalgia fanfiction galore.
Good re-introduction of the leads. Acting is soso (females are better than males here IMO). The writing was a bit clicheed and mechanical in this episode. Love triangle, enter new blond love interest etc. The dating stuff was fun enough. The resolution with the children was uncreative, it would have been interesting if she fell out of her comfort zone by realizing her kid was the ringleader (maybe that's still coming).
The peeing release, well there was that... nice to revisit Vulcan though.
Will the critics rip this season apart like the last one (28%)? Very exiting to see.

So my thoughts... and there be spoilers here, so don't read if you don't want.
Interesting way to kick the season off, this. There's no real driving story to it - the ship isn't in danger, the Krill aren't attacking, there's no emergency. Everyone is just chilling out and honestly they mostly seem kinda bored. What we do get is a lot of character stuff. I rather liked that, it was a nice change of pace.
So we see that Ed is taking Kelly's telling him they couldn't be together hard. He's bored, he's boozing pretty heavily. I like the Rhino bartender - Jason Alexander! I wonder how he felt about being under such a heavy makeup job?
They also come up with a new way for broken hearted guys to be creepy. Ed checks a shuttle out and literally goes to hang outside Kelly's quarters to spy on her. That's a cool moment, don't know that I've ever seen it done before. And I always appreciate anything that gives us a sense of connecting the inside of the ship to the outside like that, it makes the ship feel more real to me.
And I love that the Moclans actually make a ceremony of their once a year urination. I have to wonder if they always had this in mind - the once a year thing came across as a throwaway joke in the pilot episode, it's a nice touch to see them taking that and running with it. I also love that after all the buildup, we never got to see him actually doing it. I wonder, what would be funnier? If it was some gigantic torrent of pee that went on for ages... or if after a whole year he just produced a little dribble?
That actually set me thinking about the biology of this seriously. Water is incompressible, so Bortas can't have that much stored up. No more than five times as much as a human, say. So if I had to guess, I would guess that Moclans drink as we do and have some organ that uses water to filter out the stuff we don't want. But then most of that water is probably dumped through the breath, sweat, etc. What remains is a super-concentrated form of urine, of which only a very small amount accumulates per day. And by the end of the year there's about as much as a human produces, more or less.
It seems certain that Alara is going to be leaving, and I guess they are showing her being dissatisfied as a way to set that up.
Nice to learn more about Dann. I love that guy!
I still don't care about Finn's kids. I find myself wondering if they're here to be Wesley antidotes. Everyone hated him because he was too smart, too perfect. These kids seem designed to be precisely not that. I appreciate the realism, but geez, they're just annoying as hell. And how dumb is picking out the simulator to have your illicit booze session? Seriously? I don't care how many simulators they have, there are going to be waiting lists a mile long for these things. It's probably one of the worst places on the whole ship to try and hide!
I like Tyler. Hope we will be seeing more of her. And I have to wonder, if dark matter cartography a new science? In Pria they didn't even know how to detect the stuff until she showed them. Did they pass that tech on and the Union ran with it?
Overall a good start to the season. A good way to introduce newbies to the characters, and fun to catch up with them all.

Why do you think Alara is leaving the show? That would be a real bummer. I like her. I don't know if it's been confirmed, but rumours have been circulating for months now. There's a new Xelayan character coming onto the show, Talla, as played by Jessica Szohr. The rumour is that she's going to replace Alara, who will either leave the show completely, or maybe leave the ship but make guest appearances sometimes. If the rumours are true Alara's going to do another three or four episodes then adios.

I doubt it was the show. She's one of their most popular characters, they wouldn't want to lose her. Another rumour is that Seth is dating Halston Sage. No idea if that had any impact on her leaving. If she is!

Episode 2 thoughts: I like that the show keeps tackling issues we haven't seen in other sci-fi shows. This episode addressed porn addiction. I also like that there isn't always a happy ending. That's reality and that's what they're giving us. I kept thinking during the erotic scenes that someone somewhere was super offended by what they were seeing. It got weird in a couple scenes. ๐ The episode wasn't overly funny. I like the show's humor, so I could have done with some more, but it was a good episode. We're 2 for 2. So far so good. I give this episode a solid B. Are they giving us more interspecies sex again? I find that an unconvincing part of the show.

I thought the porn addiction episode was the season opener? Anyway, I enjoyed it for the story and some of the comedy bits even made me laugh out loud. I've found the comedy the weakest part of the show, previously.

Episode 2 was much better than episode 1. I liked that they tackled porn addiction. It's a real a problem that needs to be addressed and they handled it pretty well. I don't think there needed to be people living on the planet (which was obvious) they ship could have been in danger while trying to recover the material.
I liked the weird alien in engineering that Bortus gets his porn from. There needs to be more weird looking alien species like that.

Are they giving us more interspecies sex again? I find that an unconvincing part of the show. No, but they show a few kinky sex fantasies play out. I just worry stuff like that is going to turn people off. I want the show to do well. I guess I should just have faith and be glad they're pushing boundaries and not playing things safe. It was kinky last season when the doctor had sex with that blobby creature that enveloped her. I don't see why aliens from different parts of the galaxy would be dating, they're as likely to have offspring as if a human mated with a horse. But the ship's bar is hopping with such encounters.

It was a great episode imo.
Reference the shuttle, they had to heavily modify it to withstand the radiation and gravity from the sun so they didn't have time to modify more than one.
I think the people on he planet was important to redeem Bortus. It proved that despite his addiction problem, he was still a valuable and courageous officer.

I'm curious as to what Trek fans think of Brannon Braga's work on this show, considering how hated he is by Trek fans.
