Tonight's episode calls to mind 'Booby Trap' from Star Trek: The Next Generation and 'Alter Ego' from Star Trek: Voyager. It was much better than both.

I really, really liked this episode. Funny, sad, and good heavens Leighton Meester looked so good. Sucks we have to wait 3 weeks for a new episode. Might rewatch this one. I liked it that much.
I agree, great episode. Even the Moclans didn't annoy me too much this time.

The Moclans were hilarious the way they got right into smoking and even knew how to hold the cigarettes properly.

It's an okay episode, it feels like a watered down version of Primal Urges. Loved the smoking subplot. Isaac wasn't in this episode! Great seeing Tim Russ, hard to believe he's so old now! Voyager doesn't seem like that long ago.

It was a great episode. I love when they have these small personal stories and the Moclans smoking was hilarious.

How many more of these female Moclan episodes will we have to suffer through? 😡 I'm sorry. I'm over it. I waited 3 weeks for this? The Moclan gender issue horse is decomposing and Seth McFarlane is still flogging it. I hope this is the last we see of t until season five at least.

Liked the new episode a lot. I have a feeling the Moclan's will leave the Union at one point. Now that they've played that card and the Union backed down they're bound to play it every time a disagreement comes up.
Loved seeing Marina Sirtis! With her natural accent! F. Murray Abraham was the Chairperson, he was in Star Trek Insurrection. Tony Todd was the Moclan ambassador, he's been in TNG, DS9, Voyager, and has done voice work for several Star Trek video games.
I keep hearing we're going to see more major TNG characters, but outside of Sirtis there haven't been any.

Nobody expected the Moclans to play such a major role. I guess being a "male only" species, they are fodder for many social issues --- homosexuality, misogyny, chauvinism, gender dysphoria, transgenderism, etc. On another note, many people including myself were disappointed when Halston Sage left. But I like Jessica Szohr. I think she is terrific. Her character is a stronger character than Alara was.

I liked Alara more as a character, but that's likely because she got more to do. Her character was clearly defined - she was super strong, smart, etc, but very green. She struggled with a lack of self confidence, and didn't always trust herself to get it done. She worried about whether she was where she was just because of her strength and the fast track policy, or did she actually deserve it. And of course a lot of that stemmed from her family issues, being seen as an academic failure on a planet and in a family where that's pretty serious.
Talla is waaay more confident than Alara. I think they wanted to go in the most opposite direction they could with her, so she didn't come across as Alara 2.0, but if anything I think maybe the overdid it - she's confident almost to the point where she comes across as arrogant.
But beyond that I couldn't say I really know much about her. She hasn't been the focus much. I've liked this season, but if I could make one change going forward it would be to have less about Bortus and the Moclans, and a bit more fleshing out of the other characters and races. They do some pretty amazing alien makeups on Orville, let's get into a couple of them next season and find out more about them.
