its strange, I enjoyed watching it, and certainly don't see it as horrible at all. At the same time though pretty much had trouble connecting to the proceedings, it left me a tad polarized as well, also the writing could've used work as well.

All this movie will be remembered for is as a text book example of the term BOX OFFICE DISASTER. Jezuz even Bohemian Rhapsody outgrossed it on Friday. www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/

This theater-emptier must be one of the most bizarrely misconceived attempts at blockbuster entertainment ever released by a major studio... Those who complain that studio movies have gotten stale and formulaic, here's your punishment.

Saw the trailer and couldn't believe how awful it looked (not surprised it bombed either) A grown ass man playing with dolls . No thanks

It is based on a true story. Also, he is not simply "playing" with dolls ... gotcha . thanks for the correction . Still doesn't look good though imo . When I viewed the trailer, I was not interested—except when I saw that Robert Zemeckis constituted the director. Since I respect and admire his creativity, and since I thought that his previous two films (2015's The Walk and 2016's Allied) ranked among the best releases of their respective years, I felt that I had to view Welcome to Marwen. And as I noted in the thread that I linked to, I consider the movie "very good" and will be seeing it at least once more. ... point being that I agree about the unappealing nature of the trailer, but I found Welcome to Marwen to be a creative, thoughtful, touching, and engrossing film. As I indicated in the other thread, I believe that the hostile reviews stem from the movie's nuanced and unconventional nature: a sentimental fable that is also troubling and idiosyncratic. Welcome to Marwen is sweet, but it is hardly a simple fairy tale, and many critics these days seem to judge films based on how well they match convention—even though convention is often empty and ridiculous.

If anything I was surprised how certain actors were underutilized as well.

so this was strange. not a bad movie but how did they manage to keep it so emotionally underwhelming/ cold???! with such good actors and powerful story. i think its because they really downplayed the likability of Marks character. They didnt really give him any redeeming quality. Like they did in 40 year old virgin. Too bad. Also feel bad for Roberta a lot. Seems like abuse.

He wanted to capture a womans essence, which he explains unto leslie mann. He also remembered finding shows in his closet the day he came home and started building up more as well.

But in the end, his potential future is with Roberta ... I would say that Mark's redeeming qualities are his capacity for creativity, reinvention, and sensitivity. Initially, he could have shown greater responsiveness to Roberta, but that failure and his overwhelming interest in Nichol speak to the film's theme about confusing fantasy and reality.

Also I just red a bunch on the real story and now like the mocie even less since they deviated quite a lot. too bad because the real story and real mark is much more intresting...

I liked the movie enough and thought the performances were solid but it made me want to watch Marwencol documentary more than anything.
