ZIMNA WOJNA (COLD WAR) introduces us to a woman named ZULA and a man named WIKTOR. In their 2nd scene together, she asks him if he's interested in her romantically and he doesn't answer. In their 3rd scene together, they stare at each other from across a room and the movie cuts to them having sex. That's kind of a clever way to go directly to what the viewer already knows will happen without beating around the bush. In their 4th scene together, ZULA talks about her feelings. However, it's not a love confession. The movie skipped that part. She doesn't even talk romantically; she bluntly says "You already know how I much I love you, but I have something to tell you" (I'm paraphrasing). This way of introducing a relationship in a movie only works when it won't be the main focus. Not only it is; the movie has time-jumps and we see this couple's ups and downs over the span of years. Don't you think that a romance with this story format should be more epic? It's hard to be invested because we don't get to see what drove them together in the 1st place. It doesn't really work as a romantic movie, but it does work as a drama movie. Even though the only thing that seemed to excel was the cinematography, overall it's a competent production and the 84-minute running time matches the content and the pacing. 6/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
