THE FOX AND THE HOUND's opening has no sound (that's rare for Disney) and, after 2 minutes or so, there's a sequence that's very tense but doesn't really end up affecting the plot, because it's forgotten inmediately. After that, we get some light comedy. The tone of the movie remains uneven until the very end. The ending isn't as predictable as one would think, but the characters and songs aren't very memorable and there are some moments directly copied from the much better BAMBI. A hunter named AMOS SLADE got angry every time his dog COPPER wandered off. I kept thinking "Your other dog is tied! Why don't you tie this one too?!" 4/10 THE FOX AND THE HOUND PART 2 1/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.

I can understand why you don't like it but I like it somewhat myself, more than I like any of the main movies from what's considered Disney's Renaissance. The animation is rather bland but I like how the film is a little bit more cynical and realistic than say The Lion King which tries to shoehorn royalty on a predator and prey dynamic. It takes a bit too much from Bambi but I like it better than that film as well because the characters aren't as cutesy. Looking back on it now I suppose that they did overlook the fact that foxes are predators for the main character. It seems that's not the only logic gap since you pointed another one out. I could be wrong though because I haven't seen this or any other Disney film in years because I've been boycotting them since they started marketing Disney branded onesies in delivery rooms. The main thing I remember about the movie is the ending and even that's a little fuzzy.
At the time I would have given it a 7. For the other renaissance films: Little Mermaid 4, Beauty and the Beast 4, Aladdin 6 The Lion King 5
If Disney ever downsizes and changes their ways I'll try out some of their more recent films. But I haven't seen anything since Toy Story 3, Tangled, and Cars 2.
