So I watched the first three episodes (will watch the rest tonight). Anyone else underwhelmed so far?
The season is only 8 episodes long. It should really be moving along faster than this with so few episodes. There's threads to pick up from the last two seasons that they're not touching on at all. So far the big story element has been whether or not Hopper can break up a tween romance. At this point I think we need more.

Finished it yesterday. I liked this season much more than the first two. I liked 1, but felt that season 2 was a bit of a letdown. This one was way better.

I finished Friday and completely loved it, just like the first 2 seasons.

(Spoilers)
Enjoyed it, though not as much as the first two seasons. They really amped up the humor this season, I want to rewatch season 1 and see how much darker it really is. I enjoyed the new additions to the cast even if this ultimately was the same story for the third time-- Demogorgon stalks Eleven and her crew, gate to the Upside Down gets closed in the climactic battle.
Curious as to what they do with season 4. I'm assuming the whole gang will reunite despite the Byers (and Eleven) moving out of Hawkins. And is that Hopper in the soviet prison, or do they have Murray? They never caught up with him after the battle, unless I missed something? As with every season, I don't know that we need another one. They can't do the same story because it's beyond stale at this point, but at the same time if they become some globetrotting adventuring club, it just isn't the same show. Hawkins is half of the charm of the story. I just hope we don't get another X-Men story like that bizarre episode in season 2 where Eleven goes to Chicago and joins a team of super criminals.
Whatever they do I'm willing to go on the journey with them for another season. They can only do so many before running out of years in the 1980s and childhood for the actors. That first season has to be in my all-time top five tv show seasons. Hell, this was my least favorite season and it's still a 7/10.

They still have the Mind Flayer around in the Upside Down so, I'm guessing that they will have to deal with that in the final season. Which might be season 4 according to one rumor. Anyway, I preferred this season to season 2, but I wasn't much of a fan of the whole Russian plot. Science fiction aside, even in the context of the show, it felt a bit unrealistic that the Soviet Union could build an underground base in the United States during the Cold War that no one in the United States government was able to found out except for one kid with a radio. Not to mention how easy it was for children to enter the base

Not to mention how easy it was for children to enter the base Yeah I mentioned that to my wife at some point during the season; that the supernatural creatures were actually more believable than the massive underground Russian base in the middle of Indiana. And pretty much every Russian character was a one dimensional cartoon as opposed to the 'evil scientists' in seasons 1-2.
