Filmmaker Larry Cohen has died at the age of 77.
Thanks for all the great movies, Mr. Cohen, and for bringing intelligence, bravery, vision and a truly distinctive voice to crime and horror filmmaking ... I can say with absolute clarity, you'll be greatly missed by many.
See you on the other side ...
Larry Cohen Rest in Peace

Character actor Joseph Pilato has died aged 70.
So sorry to hear this. I understand he passed away in his sleep last night, and I'd wager that's the peaceful way most would choose to go if they could. But 70 is too damn young. And I kid you not: I pulled up his IMDB page only day before yesterday after thinking, "I wonder what Joe's been up to." He and his S.O. were next-door neighbors at our little fourplex in Glendale, CA in the early-mid '90s, and he was an absolute prince of a guy. I was only vaguely aware of his acting career at the time. That above is pretty much the expression that was on his face when he rang my bell about an hour-and-a-half after the Northridge quake in '94, saying, "I wouldn't normally ask this at 6 in the morning, but have you got a drink in the house?" We sat at the kitchen table and calmed still-jangled nerves over glasses of Glenlivet from a bottle that had fortunately survived. It was only a few months later that he and his lady - who was so freaked about being on the second floor thereafter - moved to a ground-level apartment in a one-story Burbank complex, and I was sorry to see them go. Always friendly, interesting and stimulating to be around. And oddly, neither acting, films nor the entertainment industry were ever among the things we talked about, despite our common interest. Been a good 20+ years since I saw him, but some people that you know for only a couple or so years leave a lasting impression. Josef was one such.

His character was so memorable from Day of the Dead (1985) and left such an impression, he seemed destined for more success. He played Dean Martin in Pulp Fiction too, something I'm only learning now from his IMDB page. Sorry for the loss of your friend, Doghouse6.

I didn't realize that either until the other day when I looked him up. I don't remember now what it was that made him pop into my head, but it's always weird when you think of someone again after a while, and then learn they just died. Spooky, y'know? And also sad when one of the really nice ones goes so soon.

Canadian actor Shane Rimmer (1929-2019) passed away on March 29th at age 89. Never the leading man, but chances are very good you've seen one of his film appearances. He moved to the U.K. in the late 50's and that's where his career began. He started out as a lounge singer. He became the voice of Scott Tracy on the TV series Thunderbirds. He appeared in three different James Bond movies ( You Only Live Twice (1967), Diamonds Are Forever (1971), and The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)), as three different characters. He also did some voice only work on Live and Let Die (1973). He appeared in Superman (1978), Superman II (1980) and Superman III (1983) but he also played a different character each time. He was even in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977). He even guest starred on the original series of Doctor Who. He is the only actor to appear in both the Christopher Reeve Superman film series and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. He is the only actor to have appeared in both Batman and Superman films from separate continuities, as well as the Star Wars and James Bond franchises. All of the Shane Rimmer movies I've seen, so far: You Only Live Twice Diamonds Are Forever Rollerball Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope Silver Bears The People That Time Forgot The Spy Who Loved Me Julia Superman Hanover Street Arabian Adventure Superman II The Dogs of War Reds Gandhi The Hunger Superman III The Lonely Lady Morons From Outer Space The Holcroft Covenant White Nights Out of Africa Crusoe A Kiss Before Dying Company Business Year of the Comet A Kid in King Arthur's Court Spy Game Batman Begins Dark Shadows
