Well that's just not true. I find religion very useful. On Sunday mornings, you know Christians will be in church. That's the best time to break into their houses and steal their stuff. Muslim houses get hit on Fridays.

Let me know if you would need any apprentice. That's a very adventurous job and I have been fascinated with such a job since I saw water bandits in Home Alone

Sorry, I work alone. But a word of advice... Home Alone is not a very good teaching tool for that job.

He was really on referring to Christianity as well. Anyway, it doesn't matter if you get rid of religion. The way Atheists carry on and SJW's they are just as zealous about their beliefs as the Spanish Inquisition was about theirs. If there is no religion or lack thereof, these people will be less militant about it No, they'll just find something else to be militant about.

Everyone here is highly opinionated So are you. An opinion is what somebody thinks about something. I think that religion is not useless, and you do think that it's useless. Both views are opinions. Therefore, you, like everyone else, are "highly opinionated."

No, religious people aren't "hurt." We are just pointing out and explaining why you are wrong.

That's a very Christian thing to do... Jesus is all for getting rid of your earthly possessions... you are helping them on their way.

It's all part of the wonderfulness of me. I give and I give and I give, expecting no reward. I grew up as a Christian. So I guess the principle of charity is still ingrained in me. Some have even thanked me for helping them to not be of the world. I don't know, I guess I just love people.

It is funny that after 62 years of living on this planet, you have still not understood what is humour and when people make serious answer and when not.

One of my siblings is very religious and I would argue that she is the happiest of the three of us.

Well. A pretty solid argument you made there. I thought I have personally seen religion being of use to several people I know. Will need to tell all those people attending yoga classes and zen meditation classes and people of those orphanages run by religions that they need to stop wasting their time on it. Will also need to tell them that a message board poster on RFS believes that all the things you benefited from religion are imagined. You don't need religion for orphanages or to meditate. Why would you? And I'm not saying religion is useless. I think it's a good psychological boost to those who can't face a godless world without becoming depressed. Some, apparently, live in utter terror at the thought of no life after death. Religion is good to help them get through life. It's also good for those who otherwise couldn't figure out how to get along with others and need an incentive to do good...you know like run orphanages or a deterrent to raping pillaging and plundering. From what some theists say, if not for their "god belief" they'd be immoral vagabonds with no reason to do good or help others. So, I find religion very useful.

I am not saying you need a religion to meditate but that religion has provided such things to society and often encouraged people to use them to their benefit. For example, Yoga is one of the 6 philosophical schools of Hinduism. A core and integral part of Hinduism and has helped millions of people since times immemorial in many different ways. Same way different religions have shaped the evolution of different types of things that have helped humans everywhere. Obviously, there are demerits of religion but that does not mean religion has no uses. That is what I tried to convey to OP.

I used to be an atheist but this thread has made me religious.
I must go and pray to the 12 Gods of Olympus.

Religion is beneficial to the individual, harmful to mankind as a whole.

Religion is beneficial to the individual, harmful to mankind as a whole. I think that a better argument could be made that religion is harmful to the individual, but beneficial to mankind as a whole. Not that either statement is necessarily true.
