Wow! I kind of can't believe it! “It’s a great day in Salem! The sands in the hourglass will continue to flow for yet another year,” said executive producer Ken Corday. “We’re grateful to NBC and Sony for their continued support of the show and, of course, to our dedicated and passionate fans, we owe it all to you. Thank you for taking us through our 55th season. We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store.” NBC’s ‘Days of Our Lives’ Renewed For Record-Breaking 55th Season

I was going to post this but you got here first. I don't watch the show myself but I have to cheer such an achievement.

I’m happy to hear about the renewal. I think the show is much better lately than it was under Dena Higley’s tenure. It still has some problems overall, but still much better. I believe this renewal is a bit earlier than the last couple of renewals. They’ve had a creative resurgence over the last couple of years and it seems that the show doesn’t have to worry about the threat of a replacement anytime soon since Megyn Kelly’s show failed and nothing else on NBC in the afternoon is having any real success outside of “Ellen.”

It's definitely better than it was with Higley but there are still some bad things about the show (lack of sets, missing core characters, to name a few).
I am glad it's been renewed, don't get my wrong, but it was a surprise.

I also read that the ratings for DOOL was up 4% over the previous year in 2017 on TV Line. I’m sure that played into the earlier than usual renewal.
I’m still disappointed with the cheap sets used on the show, but they’re a little bit better lately than they were a couple of years ago. I just find it ridiculous that we’re supposed to believe that people like Kate, Brady and Eve would live in hotel rooms when the youngsters have a huge loft to live in. Heck, it would be nice to see John and Marlena’s home, Hope’s home, and Kayla’s as well. But, I guess that’s nitpicking.
As for characters, with the departures of some core characters like Paul, Steve, Abigail and Chad, I thought we’d get some permanent returns from fan favorites like Belle and Shawn, Sami (if Alison would be willing to return), Carrie or some other fan favorites? I’m not digging on Haley and Sarah. And, Kyle Lowder as Rex is really bad. He’s a bad actor.

I always disliked Kyle Lowder. I hated Brady when he was in the role, and I hated Brady and Chloe together. I always said when Eric Martsolf took over the role that "this is a Brady I can get on board with!" EM is just a million times better as Brady, it's almost made me forget about Kyle.
I can't stand Sarah. I had such high hopes for her as a character but she's annoying AF, and her face is weird - what's with her top lip??? I can't place it. Something is off with her face. I hate that she has not been in town for like 25 years and is thrashing around like some powerhouse bossing people around and acting all superior like she knows better. It's so off-putting!!! I hate her and Eric together. She really had no right to just take Holly without telling Chloe, even if she is her aunt. Did she ever meet Daniel, her dead brother??? UGGGGHHHHH can't stand this storyline and really disappointed in how they have written Sarah. Who will she get with once Eric gets back with Nicole?
I'm absolutely DREADING when Abigail and Chad leave. Like this might be the departure that breaks me!!! I loooovvvveeee them both so much.

Sarah has been annoying since she came on the show, and I also noticed something weird with her lips. I've been wondering if she gets fillers as they seem to project too much. I hope the writers figure out what to do with her.

I liked KL a lot as Brady way back in the day, but I haven't dug much about his run as Rex, except maybe that one first scene with Brady. Great news about the renewal!

I don't have a problem with Kyle Lowder as an actor specifically, but I didn't like his Brady at all. It didn't help that he was mainly there as a rival to Philip, who I liked a lot, but he was also just so emo and moody and angry for, seemingly, no reason. He seems to have little in common with the fun and charismatic screw-up vibe that EM brings to the role.
Also KL just wasn't a strong actor in the days he was playing Brady. I do think he's gotten more competent as an actor since he's been away, so his Rex hasn't bothered me as much.

I remember thinking his performance was really strong when he and Kirsten Storms were like stuck on the train tracks or whatever. I wonder if that would hold up. Prolly not, lol.

I think that train stuff was during a short time when I phased out the show because it was just so godawful.

I think that train stuff was during a short time when I phased out the show because it was just so godawful. I stuck with it daily from 1996-2002 and then stepped back because I left for college and hated the Rex and Cassie "alien" storyline. I started watching every day again when JER came back and did the serial killer storyline with Doc. That was a crazy time.
