Michael Keaton - no contest. Val Kilmer was also surprisingly good even though the movie sucked.

I feel adding him would be unfair for the rest, lol

Because I'm not allowed to go with Kevin Conroy, Christian Bale. I don't care how you feel about the actor, at least there was a character there for him to play. I never felt like I got to know Keaton's, or Kilmer's, or Clooney's.

As for Bale I loved his Wayne portrayal, his Batman? Not as much as Keaton's.

They're the same character, in or out of costume. I can't take Keaton seriously in the costume, that said. His inability to turn his head, general stiff movements, and diminutive size make the fight scenes impossible to watch.

But see, I respect that was Batman's first real outing... technical problems aside he was a joy to watch. And when it comes to suits? As great a TDK is, the "tactical" suit he has looks like an army thing, I remember the first EW cover and wonder what the... Nolan's hyper realism didn't bode well for me but I let BB slide on the account it was a great movie w a great villain, I let TDK slide on the account of all I said before and Heath Ledger who deserves a special mention... But TDKR??? astoundingly unwatchable, it was like watching a tree grow, and the "suits" were just pathetic.

Can't say I agree. Sorry, but even in 1989, I just can't excuse a costume that prevents the actor from turning his head, especially in a big budget movie where they had time and resource to second guess their design decisions. I would actually count Adam West's tenor as Batman's first real outing. He was a joy to watch.

I can give you the suit, but Burton's Batman was terrifying.

For all the wrong reasons, though. He doesn't seem to give a damn who gets hurt along the way of his pursuit of "justice", which is the same problem I had with Affleck's Batman.
