Maybe you're getting confused because your memory is terrible? I wasn't confused at all during Infinity War...
Haven't even bothered to see it. I was speaking of the comic Secret Wars.
But speaking of cinema and storyelling-never been a film with many dozens of characters functioning as a coherent dramatic story. So if Marvel keeps upping the character numbers, it will not create more order, just more chaos.

I like how they used him. A character that they won't use as a major villain. Just use him as a minor one to give another a backstory. Yeah I've been using that Egghead joke for years now. It was fun to see it actually happen, even as a throwaway background character. I think any character, big or small, is open game in the MCU. Even if there is a change to them.

It was an event movie that had the backstory of a whole lot of previous movies. You don't go into Return of the Jedi and expect to understand everything because there was 2 other movies before it. Same goes for every other series of movies with an actual story that bridge the movies.

Same goes for every other series of movies with an actual story that bridge the movies. That is much smaller scale than a Marvel movie. You don't only need to watch 2 previous movies, but a half dozen other ones. Thus the reason I am so far behind in watching them. That and Age of Ultron wasn't all that appealing.

People binge watch an entire series of a tv show. Watching movies to catch up on a huge series of movies should be no problem. The thing that get people is the idea that they are movies.

Yeah I did that with Phase 1 and 2, but it didnt make for a positive viewing experience in the end. And it keeps getting more complicated. As a movie, this is detrimental if you care about drama, suspense etc. Superman 1 and 2 work better as dramas because they do not throw in tons of extra material.
As Steve Ditko reportedly said about putting Spider-man into the Marvel Universe and interacting with other characters:
"short term gain, long term loss."

Why? Spider-man is a huge part of the Marvel Universe. He had a series call Marvel Team-up. His first titled series had an appearance from the Fantastic Four. One of his most remembered animated series was Spider-man and His Amazing Friends. His 90s animated series had frequent appearances from characters from all over the Marvel Universe.
There is nothing complicated about the MCU in terms of the characters. It's the people used to single hero series for so long that they feel overwhelmed(?) by having a bunch of them. Not realizing that there have been movies all the time with ensemble casts where they get close to equal time and story. But for some reason people have this hang up on comic book movies having the same treatment. I've read comics for years and have seen these characters interact in lots of stories. The one thing that people got to realize that these are "comic book" movies. Most of the others are movies adapted from comics.

Why? Spider-man is a huge part of the Marvel Universe.
He probably felt that dramatically speaking, Spider-man benefited from being in his own separate continuity.

Spider-man is a character that feels it's his responsibility to handle things himself without calling for help. You can't have that feeling if he's actually the only one to handle things.
