...better than being sozzled in Stella! I think you ask too much of him when you ask him to give Stella. He couldn't live. Yeah. I'd be like Marlon Brando in "A Streetcar Named Desire."

hath Do you believe in what Hinduism says? Or is that not the point? I am a non-religious person. But I can tell the difference between Christianity and Islam. In the same way I can tell that the core teachings of Hare Krishna is pretty different from the core teachings of Hinduism. In all forms of Hinduism, Krishna is an incarnation of God Vishnu. Hare Krishna morons teach that Vishnu is the incarnation of God Krishna Is there any chance they will try to kill you?

What has their absurd religious beliefs got to do with chance of them trying to kill me? More or less what I'm asking you. I wouldn't know whether they will try to kill me or not. I do not go near HK temple.
And I am surprised that a conservative like yourself wouldn't have a problem with HK preaching views contrary to the teachings of 1000s of years of traditional Hinduism. If I were a conservative I do get off the HK fan base primarily for their lack of respect for ancient and traditional Hindu values. The fact that HK believes in exclusivism is a reason enough for any Indian to get pissed by them. The primary value of Hinduism is to respect other religions and be inclusive of all. HK fails on that.
The above speech by Swami Vivekananda at at the Parliament of World's Religions in Chicago (1893) is what any Indian would stand for, except for the HK fanatics.

I do like they way they dance through the streets though. One of my fondest New Year memories comes from the 1980s when a number of drunken celebrators joined in and danced around the fountains in Trafalgar Square.

I'm not taking sides. Do they shave their heads? Why does it matter whether they shave their heads or not. There is no injunction in Hinduism that states that people or monks need to do so. Of course, certain sects or certain people who indulge in any specific ritual may do so. The HK people are fanatics. Nothing more. Their religion is not based on tradition or Vedas but on whims and fancies.

Has any Hindu ever told Hare Krishnas that what they believe goes against what Swami Vivekananda taught?

They are a cult.
Usually I judge a religion or cult by three measures. How do they treat women? How do they treat homosexuals? How do they treat non-members, especially apostates?
Most cults based in Christianity, like Jehovah's Witnesses or the Unification Movement, are not great in that regard. I know too little about Hare Krishna to judge them; but as far as I know, Hinduism as a religion is not that great either when judging by these three measures.
However, what I don't care much about is whether a cult is "heretic" regarding the mainstream religion. But if a cult or religion calls itself the only "true" faith, then the odds are very high that it's a false belief. And that is a provable fact.

...The above speech by Swami Vivekananda at at the Parliament of World's Religions in Chicago (1893) is what any Indian would stand for, except for the HK fanatics.
However, the "fanaticisim of the "demons" as Vivekanada referred to it as, continued on into the darkness of the 20th century and still today. His optimism was unfortunately his to own for himself and not providential.
The speech is 100% legit even though the voice that you hear is dubbed for changing the accent so that all can understand. The words have not been changed.
Vivekananda was a monist and believed that the world is a delusion and only self exists. Hare Krishna on the contrary use a slang term for the monists (they call them "Mayavaadi" and mock them) and believe that there is a God called Krishna who creates everything and is distinct from other entities and is supreme being. That goes against teachings of Vedas. Their behaviour is generally intolerant. Now 3 provinces in India has prohibition courtesy of groups like Vaishnavas, Muslims and Christians. Who all have joined together to impose their idiotic beliefs on others.

I had the notion that the speech recording was cleaned up for intelligibility.
I believe in what Vivekananda expresses. Someone the other day mentioned about his books and that it would be worth reading. Never really interested in what the HK preach. Their food isn't bad though. I
I am not much into philosophy and don't understand the stuff but I can vouch that Vivekananda was an exceptional human being. There was a radiance on his face that you see in very few people. He believed in tolerance and his message was very peaceful. He made the monist philosophy relevant once again and put more importance on humans than on gods. If he didn't had so much of influence, the god preaching Hindus would have exerted more influence and yoga/monism (the better parts of Hinduism) would have been less in the talks.
