I can't find any historical or current examples of any country with a predominantly Socialist government that has been successful in anything except creating suffering from other peoples work and wealth.
'That wasn't real Socialism.. there were other factors!'
.. sure, if YOU were in charge YOU would bring in the utopia.
All counties have mixed economies. It's about the degree of sosialism in the economy. A country with widespread welfare programs doesn't make the country sosialistic. It makes the country happy (most of the countries in the list rank high on happiness). Canada is a capitalistic country, but the capitalism is regulated to avoid crony capitalism. Also, some things are done the solialistic way because that's the best way to do certain things such as healthcare. The police in the US is financed with tax dollars. That is a sosialistic way of doing police. So even the US isn't 100 % capitalistic. The US does a lot of welfare for companies such as $4 billion a year to Exxon Mobile. The problem in the US is that for example healthcare isn't done in a sosialistic way when that would give the best results. Nobody is suggesting the US to go 100 % solialistic. Stronger welfare state, single payer healthcare and tuition free education would be pretty much enough.
It WAS on my list of places to visit, but I’m not sure I want to go now as I am not interesting in getting mugged...
It used to be beautiful but it was slowly destroyed by more and more leftwing governments. I'd recommend going ahead and visiting Cali if you haven't because it is quickly deteriorating faster than any other state.
It's kind of a shame how much of the world is so beautiful, but also nigh on impossible to visit because of violence and political turmoil.
