Yep... I didn't watch the other two films. Part 2 came out in 2016? Feels odd to reboot them so soon. Ah well.

they were obviously wanting to close out the last two films with a trilogy. but the first two films obviously didn't make enough money for a possible third and final film

That's because the last movie bombed at the box office and another poster already mentioned how the last two TMNT movies were supposed to end off as a trilogy. So we'll being getting another Bay reboot soon.
