Extra extra read all about it. Cold War politics, treasure hunting, and plans gone awry? Also, dang I hoped PP was playing Zeus or Hades.

Set in the 1980s, Wonder Woman 1984 will find Diana at the height of the Cold War between the U.S. and the Soviet Union as she fights off a brand new threat in Kristen Wiig's Barbara Ann Minerva aka Cheetah. Pedro Pascal also joins the cast in a still-undisclosed role, although rumor has it that he'll be playing Maxwell Lord - a powerful businessman in the comics. Now, brand new details about the Patty Jenkins-directed flick could reveal how exactly Steve is brought back to life with the help of Lord.
According to a report from We Got This Covered, Trevor's return ties into the film story with the involvement of Lord who is looking for magical artifacts that would make him as powerful as a god. She eventually stumbles on Minerva and convinces her to help him with his goal. The two's relationship goes awry, however, after Minerva gets cursed by an artifact that turns her into Cheetah. With a target on his back, Lord reaches out to Diana with the promise that he'll resurrect Steve in return for her protection.

Sometimes the simplest plots are the best. It's all in the execution. My thing is that I would have though someone like Felix Faust would be looking for magical items, not Maxwell Lord. Maybe the press has got the wrong guy.

Honestly I wish both marvel and DC would keep the characters they kill off dead.
Yeah yeah I know "in comics they come back all the time, blah blah blah"
If they die on screen, they should remain dead.

So if he comes back....well we know he does in some way or another....he must die again, because he wasn't present in JL. So that's going to be somewhat disappointing to see this great character die again. Like it or not, he was a major reason WW was successful. Chris Pine was excellent at playing him.

Aquaman already ruins the continuity with JL, why stop there?

As for letting the dead stay dead.... a few have. So far they haven't shown any interest in bringing back whichever Bat-kid was wearing the suit Bruce had in the case during BvS. Antiope may appear in flashbacks, but it doesn't seem they are bringing her back. Three of Clark's four parents, plus Bruce's parents. In MCU, Peggy Carter is staying dead, seems they are keeping Pietro/Peter/Quicksilver dead, they kept Starlord's mama dead- and have killed off both his bio dad & Yondu without any hint of bringing them back, they killed off Frigga/Odin/Volstagg/Hogan/Folstaff without any hint they might bring them back (jury is still out on Heimdall & Sif, Loki will probably come back), they left Irskine dead as well as the Howling Commandos (granted, they got to die of natural causes/old age, which seems to grant you a one-way ticket to Valhalla in the MCU movieverse), I'm assuming Spiderman's parents are staying dead since I haven't seen the Tom Holland movie(S).... But honestly, I think we all knew the moment they cast Pine as Steve Trevor, that Steve was not gonna stay dead.
As for the new alleged plotline, the magic idea doesn't bother me. Although I feel like it'll end up more than either Steve's been brought back by accident and the guy tries to make Diana think he did it intentionally and therefore can hold Steve's life over her head to make her do his bidding- only to find it won't work cause Steve will urge her to save the world instead of him, or it'll work out that the same thing that curses Minerva to be Cheetah is also what brings Steve back and he's tethered to the power/curse/magic somehow so that to restore the balance of energies in the world and avert some horrible crisis- Steve has to sacrifice himself again.

I don't like Steve Trevor coming back, but I'm still all in on this film. Same here. I wasn't a big fan of bringing Steve Trevor back but Chris Pine was so good in this role that I hope it works. I'm also a little skeptical on having Kristen Wiig play the role of Cheetah. I would of liked to of seen Emily Blunt in this role. |

I love the backstory that, if not for the selfless act of a man, she'd be dead before she got to be an Amazon. But I'm guessing that either the writers never considered her (as is sadly the case with some of the best villains), OR they found her post WW'17 and thought her too similar to their take on Dr.Poison without some major overhaul and also maybe figured that they didn't want the social media backlash of Diana fighting an adopted-sibling who had a militant, murderous version of Themsycerian life as her Villainous Plot? Too bad though, she would have been a cool, complex villain who was Diana's near equal in a physical confrontation, would have had a similar enough background that it would have been more like watching siblings go to war over ideological differences, and it would have been interesting to see in a future JL movie how that might have been touched on by the others. |

According to the the plot in the OP, Maxwell Lord would resurrect Steve as leverage to get Wonder Woman to protect him from Barbra Minerva who will become the Cheetah. |

That's too many steps for something that can be so simple. Just have him be the grandson, Minerva is jealous of Diana and wants to get rid of Steve Jr. |

Well some people complained that it was weird when Captain America became romantic with a relative of Peggy Carter. Wouldn't it be weird for Wonder Woman to hook up with the grandson of a guy she hooked up with?

Unless Steve Trevor has some really dominant genes, him having an identical grandson is a pretty difficult pill to swallow. It would also be pretty weird for Diana to have a romance with the grandson of her dead boyfriend. |
