Carol Changing is #1? Because she's just so Dangerous! Actually, she wasn't number one on the lists the White House aides came up with AFAIK. She was just listed as number one in a widely-carried news article reporting on the enemies list. According to Gil Troy, writing in The Daily Beast, Channing was never sure how she got on the enemies list. But two likely possibilities are that (1) she used her fame from the overnight Broadway sensation Hello Dolly!, which opened in 1964, to help Democrats at that year's Democratic National Convention, where she sang "Hello Lyndon!" in a version of the song authorized by the copyright holders. The Republicans had earlier tried to use the song to support Barry Goldwater ("Hello Barry!") but Jerry Herman, the songwriter, wasn't having any of that. And (2) Channing was friends with the Kennedys, especially Jackie Kennedy.

As a contrast, I have wondered if Sam Goldwyn and David O. Selznick were on Roosevelt's enemies list. Or at least the enemies list of the big studios who backed the Democrats. The two movie moguls I usually see linked to unflattering gossip were Goldwyn and Selznick. Interestingly, they were both members of SIMPP and Selznick organized a fundraiser for the GOP in Hollywood.
Maybe just a coincidence.
