The actors were great though. It is pretty forgettable now, but I remember enjoying it. It was weird seeing Vince Vaughan in that kind of role.

Great so far, much better than season 2. Mahershala Ali is doing a great job and the makeup for his older self is amazing. He genuinely looks like an old man.

episode 1 and 2 were Flat out sensational . and I'm glad that this season seems to be more of a character study of the main character played brilliantly (so far) by Ali . It looks like the show runner and main writer has learned his lesson from the 2nd season (which was still decent enough imo but he tried to pack waaaaaaay too many story lines into 8 episodes and it didn't work out so well overall)
Also , Dorff in this season is good so far . Will definitely stick with it.

I just saw episode 1.
In general, having a character in the future tell what happened is a form of narration i.e. something writers should avoid. Season 1 could've started with RUST & MARTY in 2014 and not show that timeline again until the last couple of episodes. This episode does that times 2, because WAYNE tells the 1980 story in 1990 and in 2019. However, during the scenes when he's old, there are hints of events that will most likely be revealed in following episodes and, unlike the hints in the early season 1 episodes, these ones don't feel easy to predict. That sort of justifies it.
When FREDDY first appeared, I thought "Is that Taylor Kitsch?"

Third episode was a snoozefest... But, if my investigative skills are correct, it will tell you who killed the boy.
And I hope I haven't figured it out already...

Comical to see the season change in 1980. When they go to the church, no leaves on trees. No leaves on trees when the police are talking about religion in the car. Cut to the overhead shot, green everywhere. When they reach the liquor store, no leaves. When they reach the trailer park, summer foliage.
I can't help looking at trees in movies or TV. You would be surprised. I also look at clocks in the background.

I just finished it.
-Season 1: Excellent performances by Matthew and Woody and a very good performance by Michelle, but no other actors (main nor guests) stood out; one of the best episodes of 2014 (THE SECRET FATE OF ALL LIFE); unlikeable protagonists who think that admitting their flaws justifies it; an engaging mystery; a bad ending. -Season 2: Excellent performances by Colin and Rachel and very good performances by Taylor, Kelly and Vince; no episodes that excelled; characters that aren't the most innocent but one can still root for them; a boring mystery; a good ending. -Season 3: Good performances by most actors (main and guests), but no one stood out; no episodes that excelled; characters that aren't the most innocent but one can still root for them; a boring mystery; a bad ending.
