Half-sour, must be bright green and crisp. I'll toss them if they get that sickly dill color and soften. Really don't like the ones they put on burgers. Sliced is already a problem. Good: Bad:

Indian-style spicy pickles are my favorite, often made from lime rinds, garlic cloves or baby carrots. No vinegar, just spices and oil.
I also discovered the original style piccalilli recently. Great with a traditional "ploughman's lunch". Some of you will know what that is. I used to make American piccalilli not knowing anything about the original. American-style is made from green tomatoes, vinegar, onions and brown sugar. The real thing, though, is apparently mustard and cauliflower, also with a vinegar base.

I also like Claussen hot&spicy spears and hearty garlic stackers. Frog Ranch chips are good and make the Best tuna salad. Unfortunately, I can't find them anymore because both Walmart and Kroger quit carrying them. 😢

Another vote for Ba-Tampte's half sours. Delish!
I've also started making my own pickles, usually at the end of the week if we have any leftover vegetables that I don't want to see get thrown out. Really easy to make, just need some cider vinegar (I prefer tarragon), spices to your choosing, mason jars and a bit of patience.

Good: I never heard of half sour pickles. What is the taste like ? English cucumber + ocean salt water + lots of garlic. They are sold cold.
