The movies will be shot back to back.
I say it's a great idea, Tom Cruise isn't getting any younger so they should take advantage. And the last 2 M:I movies written and directed by McQuarrie were great, so no problems here

I think that that is a GREAT Decision for the Studio to do.
That being said though, I really hope that Christopher McQuarrie doesn't continue to stick with "The Syndicate/Solomon Lane" Story line for the Next 2 Movies.
I want to see a Brand New Plot and Story line with New Villains and New Threats.

Exciting news. You know what'd be awesome, a F&F crossover. That'd the greatest action movie ever.

Really excited for this. I don't think they announced it, but I have a feeling that these will be the final 2 M:I movies, at least starring Tom Cruise. And I have no doubt that they're gonna finish the franchise on a high note.

Yeah, because while he might be able to go a while longer eventually it will start getting a bit ridiculous because he will look a bit too old as he can still get away with it now but in about 5-10 years, he might not be able to. because like right now he can maybe pass for late 40's, or no older than early 50's or so but in 5-10 years time I suspect it's really going to stretch things to where if he starts looking around 60-ish it's going to be pushing it. but then again... given the rep of the series with me so far(i.e. it's pretty much the most consistent blockbuster series for me over a longer period of time off the top of my head), I doubt ill complain at the end of the day. I thought MI5 (2015) was a bit of a surprise for me (in a good way) where as MI6 (2018) slipped a little compared to the general standards of the series which 4 out of the 6 movies I gave a 7.5-8/10 (i.e. within my Top 100 movies in general) where as MI6 is only within my Top 186 movies. still, I can't complain too much as all of the MI series besides the 2nd movie is within My Favorite Movies in general. so all-in-all... McQuarrie staying on as the director I don't see being a bad thing for sure given his last two MI movies. p.s. still, I would like to see someone like Sam Mendes take a crack at directing a MI movie as I doubt he would disappoint me given his rep with me currently as when he's given solid subject matter he tends to shine (i.e. Road to Perdition (2002)(10/10)/Skyfall (2012)(9/10)/Spectre (2015)(7.5-8/10))
I never thought about that but you could be right as I think it just boils down to whether Tom Cruise wants to leave the series on a high note or not or would he rather milk the series (i.e.$$$) for as long as he can.
like maybe they will do something a little different being both are back-to-back in that have it basically one long movie Cruise character checking out near the end but have it end decent enough on the first part to perk interest to see how it finishes etc.
but if something like that does happen... I wonder how they will continue the series on without Cruise(?) as while I do think the general series is capable of being solid without Cruise they are going to have to find someone else to carry it or possibly they might be able to do something where say a actor comes in for 1-3 movies and then dies off or retires etc (like mix things up to surprise the audience so we won't know whether the lead will live or die etc) as this way they can keep on getting new/fresh faces in the series because, maybe it's just me, but those huge name stars seem to be a dying breed like Cruise etc as most of those major name stars are all like 50 something (if not upper 50's) or older with a small amount of exceptions. so I think if Cruise does step down etc, the series will be even more carried by the director and less by the actor at that point because, as I was saying, those actors with more of a commanding screen presence seem to be a dying breed. or if they are not completely dying off, I do think they are definitely getting more scarce.
just some random thoughts

McQuarrie is a f*cking hypocrite. First he insists there is now way he's gonna do another one, and now he's doing two more films!? They must have offered him a truckload of money. I would've preferred a fresh director taking over the franchise.
