I'd love to get the Criterion Blu-ray and revisit that one.

It was okay.
Not something I'd watch again.

Always hated the film. The sexual relationship between a 20 yr old and an 80 yr old was gross to begin with, but then I just found both characters obnoxious. She was just an old bat who needed to be locked away, and he was some little emo twerp walking around pretending to commit suicide because--what? No one was paying him any attention? Kid was filthy rich and couldn't figure out something to make himself happy? Man, take up a sport, a hobby, go buy a life if yours at home is garbage, you have the money to do it. Yet he was supposedly intelligent somehow. All I saw him as was a childish-acting idiot.

The ONLY time she ever showed she cared for him was when she thought he was killed in the school explosion. That's why he kept faking suicides, always hoping to get a similar reaction of concern out of her. I love the movie, I loved it the first time I saw it on TCM, and I cried all night from the end, but I loved it. And I still quote it a lot. Maude was right, a lot of people 'like to be dead', they're not living.

I love this movie. I have recommended it a lot over the years and the feedback seems to be either that is was great or what the heck did you make me watch!
I need upgrade to the Blu-ray, I re-watch it every two years or so. I so wish I could have the soundtrack as well. It's a shame they didn't release one.

I have the Blu-ray, this is a film that made the decision to buy it easy. The soundtrack was released, you can buy it on vinyl.

Weird, I was just checking out the soundtrack list and it doesn't include If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out but they have ones that weren't in the movie. I see that all the songs are available on Amazon music, maybe I will just go that way and build my own soundtrack. Does the Blu-ray come with any extras?

Thank you, excellent write up on the extras. I guess I better invest in the Blu-ray.

The end with Cat Stevens' "Trouble" is an indelible scene.
Great movie: hilarious, morose, sad, iconoclastic.

I actually watched this film on the channel RETROPLEX a couple of months ago . Totally agree here gottaluvafriend this one definitely makes the cult film list of unique and one-of-a kind memorable movies . Plus the music of Cat Stevens completes this film as well . Thanks gottaluvafriend for your subject post .

I vaguely remember a joke in a movie or TV show from when I first started smoking pot in college. All I can remember is the set up was some people were discussing Harold and Maude and one guy said "There are only two certainties in life. One is everyone dies. The other is anyone who likes Harold and Maude is an asshole."
One of my roommates at the time was a big Harold and Maude fan so I always thought that joke was hilarious.

Nice montage. I had to post to get that ridiculous "So" thread from showing at the top of the board.

Harold has a hobby, he attends funerals. He modifies his jag to look like a hearse. He was a fixation on death, probably coming from his father's death. He meets Maude who although close to death due to her age vigorously embraces the joy of living. "Live" she shouts to Harold. At the end of the film her message was resonated in him, and been adopted by him.
