Ethan Hawke wins the NY Film Critics Best Actor for "First Reformed", but doesn't get an Oscar Nom? Very, very rare.

Did MI Fallout really get nothing even for sound? Christopher McQuarrie said Paramount was not campaigning.

Many people think "snub" simply means "a movie/individual wasn't nominated." However, it actually means "a good movie/individual wasn't nominated while a less deserving one was."
BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY and VICE over IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK for Best Picture. VICE over A STAR IS BORN for Best Directing and Best Editing. MARY POPPINS RETURNS over ANNIHILATION, FIRST MAN and A QUIET PLACE for Best Score. CHRISTOPHER ROBIN over ANT-MAN & THE WASP for Best Visual Effects. MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS over BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY for Best Makeup/Hairstyling.

He is what's known as a "critics darling" -- someone who does well with critics awards but doesn't get an Oscar nod. That type of thing has happened many times over the years.

I figured Crazy Rich Asians would be nominated for cinematography. Mandy should had gotten one for that too plus a Best Actor for Nic Cage but f**k if the Academy is forgiving.

He is what's known as a "critics darling" -- someone who does well with critics awards but doesn't get an Oscar nod. That type of thing has happened many times over the years. The NY Critics have been giving out their awards since 1935 (nearly as long as the Oscars). Before Hawke, only 7 of the 82 actors getting their award failed to get an Oscar nomination. That's just 8.5 percent. So, Hawke not getting one qualifies as surprising and rare.
