I'm reading a great James Patterson book on Aaron Hernandez.
Man, this guy was a total douche. And stupid on top. Had the world at his feet but being a thug was just too important to him.

Legion.
Blatty - its pretty much the movie Exorcist III - great read - great movie.
The book and movie has a 'Georgetown' feel to it - especially since Patrick Ewing had a cameo in the movie.
Great quick read - usually read it around Halloween though

When I was a kid I would often go to Muslims and pretend that I had a great interest in their religion. I remember I once visited a book shop that was owned by a Muslim. I tried to convince him that I had a great interest in the religion of Islam and appreciated its message of brotherhood and peace.. The facial expression on his face was priceless when he heard that from me. He gave me a free Quran, a book to learn Urdu and 20% discount (over what he would give to others) for my school textbooks. I guess my intention of praising Islam was partly to get that discount but I have noted that many Muslims become very pleased if you let them know that you have interest in their religion. I continued the same stitch when I was I was in UK and Australia. That said I ended up being truly friends with many middle eastern Muslims and later revealed my act to them.

That worked out well for you! I have noticed that response as well when I was in muslim majority countries. People would seem pleased when I'd talk about my interest in arabic calligraphy and architecture.

Great quick read - usually read it around Halloween though Exorcist III - perhaps THE most underrated horror movie ever. Superb movie with one of the scariest scenes ever shot. I remember the first time I saw that scene, the chills down my back reverberated for minutes...

I'm assuming you mean the same scene I'm thinking of, with the nurse walking on the ceiling and the near-miss with the shears. Ooof.

Had a strong cult following so to speak on the old IMDB Horror Board and gets brought up at times on the IMDBv2.0 Horror/Suspense/Thriller Board. Great Crime Mystery/Thriller/Drama/Suspense/Thriller/Horror Can watch anything with George C. Scott - atmosphere and musical score is terrific - truly eerie and haunting.

Ooof. people tend to bash 'jump scares' today. to me - this is the greatest 'jump scare' scene in movie history - the slow buildup is terrific - what an eerie tense scene. 2nd - is Brody throwing chum into the ocean when Jaw's head pops up.

Well, it can be one correctly and effectively. Problem is that a lot of charlatans out there will have 10-12 in their movie, half of which being some derivative of "character hears noise, walks over to window, cat jumps out with corresponding musical flare" and it's stupid. It's what amateurs do. If you're all jump scare and zero suspense, tension, character, etc., then you're not a filmmaker, you're just some asshole with a camera and money to burn.

I remember having an old girlfriend watch this movie and telling her there was a really scary scene coming up but I wouldn't tell her when. She freaked out when that scene came, it was so satisfying.

The new Halloween movie did this a few times, it was awful. I was totally baffled by the praise that movie got, it was just terrible. No sense of dread or build up to anything. Just a bad guy stabbing people all over the place. I literally couldn't finish it. There were a couple lame "jump scares" that weren't scary. Total amateur movie.
