What with all the advances in medical science, there needs to be a way to weed out the surplus population.

I love the unbiased way you worded the choices.

If they don't have the volume on and it keeps them from screaming then I'm fine with people turning their kids into zombies.

I don't see tablets/phones as a bad thing in and of themselves. But I don't get the using them when there are other people around to talk to or socialize with. Just seems it should be entertainment when you're by yourself.
I mean killing time if the kid is going to have to wait a long time or has to hang around for boring grown up tasks to be done is one thing. But it's not a good thing to create a generation where kids can't go 5 waking minutes without something to entertain them.

I don't think kids should have tablets at all. So they scream and whine, that's a direct reflection on your parenting, deal with THAT instead of pacifying them so their brains literally rot.

I don't think it's necessary for kids to own one in the first place

No.
Nor do I think it's necessary for them to have one too soon.

Let's face it, anybody who believes their kids actually NEED one, is just an idiot. None of us grew up with them, how did we suffer? How were we worse off? Oh, we actually learned how to talk to people because our parents actually talked to us, the horrors, right?

my best friend's daughter is only 4 and she has a smart phone. There's no service on it. they use it as a tablet in kids mode on wifi. and I think it's ridiculous

Especially once you do research how over-exposure to digital screens literally damages kids' brains, it damages the frontal lobe which impairs their impulse control. So the parents who say video games, tablets, etc., are the only thing keeping their ADD, ADHD, autistic children calm, it's actually making them worse.

We were taught from day 1 what was not acceptable behavior, so while I remember a few whining episodes, no tantrums, we knew better. I remember when my sister brought her 2 boys and they screamed their heads off all night, I was only a few years older than them and wondering what the HELL was wrong with them and why wouldn't they behave? My great aunt was a public school teacher and she told my mom my brother and I were THE two most behaved kids she'd ever seen. So to me it was always mind blowing kids whose parents DIDN'T make them mind, DIDN'T punish them, and I grew up around them my whole life, it never made any sense to me. Even now I don't, you're the parent, your pansy ass days are OVER, put that foot down!
