As in playing the bass parts from a song? That's what I was thinking of. There's tons of bass covers on youtube, I like watching them. Some of the amateur musicians on youtube videos are so good they've been picked up by professionals and famous musical artists.
Here's an example (I like this bassline) ...
'Atomic' - Blondie (Keira Kenworthy)

Octaves, they are always nice to the ears Brian Wroten, this guy has the transcription so you can play along. He also has a bass only version of his videos. I love this baseline and I enjoy playing it myself. Cover Solutions is very good. He also has play along transcripts. This song is awesome to play and this cover is very good. Its a great song to learn ghost notes.

That's so cool, thanks, and you're right about the octaves.
What inspired this thread was my viewing of Tina Weymouth's documentary on bass which is being screened by the British Broadcasting Corporation (it's a 3-part series with Stewart Copeland covering drums and Lenny Kaye on guitar). Herbie Flowers was on deconstructing the different ascending-descending bass parts that went into making 'Walk On The Wild Side' and he got quite emotional.
One of my favourites on youtube, who Id like to return to, is funky Italian Alessandra Scaravilli. She's covered 'Rio' by Duran Duran in the past.

Duran Duran had cool bass parts.
Tina Weymouth is a good bass player. My dad mentioned he saw part of a bass doc on the bbc, im guessing that was the one.

It was a great show ( will be watching the guitar one today. The stand out for me for Bernard Edwards and his pickless technique. There are a few decent covers but none seem to be able to do it quite the same as him.

Great thread! I recently learned of Anna Sentina.
I like Anna Sentina too, she collaborates well, always brings it and the production values for her latest videos are off the chart. The video that I first started listening to first was her take on Queen, I felt she really brought out the intricacy of John Deacon's playing. And she's a Snoopy fan!
'Somebody To Love' - Queen (Anna Sentina)
'Take The Power Back' - Rage Against The Machine (Anna Sentina)
'Linus & Lucy' - The Vince Guaraldi Trio (Anna Sentina)
