Nobel Prize winning Novelist William Faulkner is buried in Oxford Cemetery, Mississippi, the Faulkner family plot contains four graves, One for Faulkner, One for his wife Estelle, One for his stepson Malcolm and a fourth grave with a smaller headstone marked 'E.T. - An Old Family Friend That Came Home To Rest With Us' The identity of E.T. is a carefully guarded secret and apparently the only living person that knows the answer is Faulkner's nephew Jimmy. So who is E.T.? a family pet? the black sheep of the family that no one talks about? since Faulkner was an alcoholic could it be a bottle of his favorite tipple 'Early Times Whiskey'? A love child? A mistress? An Extra Terrestrial (I had to throw that one in)? It may not be a mystery that is up there with finding Atlantis or the identity of Jack the Ripper but intriguing none the less. www.oxfordmississippi.com/the-truth-and-the-faulkner/

hi224 , When I read that, I could help but be reminded of another mysterious burial (which has nothing to do with Aliens... LOL!). It took me a while to track down the details: The Basic Legend:In 1816... A woman fell ill on a ship carrying she and her husband to the USA... Upon reaching Alexandria, she was taken to Room 8 at Gadsby's Tavern... A Doctor and Nurses took care of her for several days, but could not determine what disease she had... As she continued to become more sickly, she realized that she was going to die... She requested to everyone to keep her identity a secret... A couple of days later she did die... Her husband asked for her to be buried in a nearby cemetery... A table top like headstone was erected over the grave... On top, an elaborate inscription was chisled into the stone: Inscription: (The First Part...) To the memory of a FEMALE STRANGER whose mortal sufferings terminated on the 14th day of October 1816 Aged 23 years and 8 months
This stone is placed here by her disconsolate Husband in whose arms she sighed out her latest breath, and who under God did his utmost even to soothe the cold dead ear of death What Happened Afterwards:Shortly after the funeral, the husband was facing financial troubles, and he was not able able to pay off most of the debts that he had incurred throughout the town... One night, he fled from the town, never to return... Despite all of the towns people not getting paid, They NEVER revealed her identity. But the "Female Stranger's" story doesn't end there... Her spirit supposedly haunts the old Tavern & the room that she died in, as well as, the cemetery where she is buried!
