From Collider: I have seen Alita and absolutely loved it. James Cameron, Robert Rodriguez and Jon Landau have crafted something special and it’s one of those rare films that’s actually worth seeing in 3D. Trust me, the visual effects are insane, the action set pieces are easy to follow and well shot, and Rosa Salazar is fantastic as Alita. In addition, the world of Alita is the type of place I wish I could visit and hope they’re able to make future installments. And I’m not alone. Last night, Fox showed the movie for free to fans in 30 US markets and the reaction was fantastic. I looked around Twitter and saw so many positive tweets echoing what I’ve been saying. Another free IMAX screening coming up for LA citzens; collider.com/alita-battle-angel-imax-screening/

Interesting comment from an early preview review:
Ignore the "professional" critics. For being professional they were lazily ignorant on this movie. None of them seemed to be aware that this movie is not an original movie, but a manga adaptation. That fact alone already voided almost all of their criticism. Just like in an echo chamber they all whined about the same thing: "there's setup for a sequel, ughhh, yet another movie who wants to be a franchise" (the franchise ALREADY exists and is nearly 30 years old! The setup is just the movie being faithful to the source material), "lack of closure because of the ending" (very wrong, the main arc the movie focused on did very much get closure. What they are referring too is that not all questions get answered because the movie is volumes 1-2 and the series is 30+ volumes long, so yeah, not everything gets fully explained in the first chapter! duh!), "the bad guys seemed like ordinary grunts" (well yeah of course, because they are. Did Sauron get defeated in the intro chapter of Lord of the Rings?)
If you look at the reaction of normal people, and not snobbish "professional' critics, the feedback is A LOT more positive.

WOW the most recent ones: "Alita: Battle Angel is cynicism-free, first-class popcorn entertainment spearheaded by a knockout performance from Salazar. A star is born"
"This movie proves that, finally, Hollywood not only has the technology, but the imagination necessary to do a great story justice. 9/10 "

That guy from rotten Tomatoes who wrote that POS article is really gonna look like an ass now. That is what happens when you jump the gun. Just because your team scored a goal in the first 5 minutes doesn't mean they gonna win the game! Live and learn.

"Alita: Battle Angel is a technical showcase. When the director of Titanic and Avatar asks for money, the correct answer seems to be how much. The fluid action sequences and incredible motion capture could’ve only been possible with a significant budget. "

The Geek critics is on our side!!!!!!:
With an outstanding cast consisting of Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Bastards), Mahershala Ali (Green Book), Jennifer Connelly (A Perfect Mind), and Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner, Bird Box) as Alita, Alita: Battle Angel is the next generation of visual storytelling. The mixture of practical effects and computer generated technology is pure and flawless. The 3D is amazing and immersive and is probably the best use of the medium that I have ever seen. I cannot wait to see it again.

Its Fresh!! I havent followed the progress of a movie on RT's for 10 years is it a common thing for movies to start out at 30(cos of idiotic early attention seeking reviewers) and then double their score in the next few days? "Want to see" has gone up a point to 94. Metacritics gone up a point to 53

"Want to see" has gone up a point to 94. Metacritics gone up a point to 53 Its is common for movie to FALL in ratings, they always go down because the people who loved the movie tend to send in their reviews first. I have never seen a movie go from 33% to 60% on RT. This is indeed a first!
