Jay's - the best, especially those made for dips...
Blue Star - greasy and horrible (thankfully, they are out of business)

Jay's - the best, especially those made for dips... Blue Star - greasy and horrible (thankfully, they are out of business) I remember when Jay's used to come in that big white/blue tin. I also remember going past the factory on the South Side and smelling the potatoes being cooked. Haven't had Jay's in decades, didn't know they still made them.
I usually don't eat potato chips but when I do, its usually Lay's.

Potato chips are my "junk-food-of-chioce! I like Ruffles, and Lay's that are "crinkled," because they stand up to dips. Some BBQ chips are good, but if they're too encrusted with flavoring, I can't eat many (maybe a good thing). Lay's makes a "Limon," with lime and salt. I like them, but, again, the flavor is pretty intense, so I'm limited in what I can eat.
I've never been able to warm up to salt 'n vinegar - not horrible, but not a first choice.
On the old board there were a couple of threads about the more obscure "boutique" flavors. Most of those don't appeal to me.
I cannot stand Pringles. The texture is weird, and they even look kind of "creepy." Potato chips should NOT all be identical.

Zapps's Cajun Dill Gator Tators, followed closely by their Voodoo chips. Those are TASTY!
Trader Joe's also carries a ridged potato chip that is excellent.

There are brands, mentioned here, that I'm unfamiliar with. Jay's, Blue Star and Zapps are not distributed to the west coast, as far as I know. "Cajun Dill Gator Tators," and "Voodoo Chips," sound interesting. I've never tried TJ's chips ... but, I will.

In recent years, you see them now and again. They are excellent if you ever come across them. The Cajun Dill ones are like spicy pickle chips, and the Voodoo chips are like sweet/spicy ones, but more spicy than sweet. Also excellent.

I've heard of UTZ, but I don't think I've ever seen it on the market shelves. I'll look more carefully.

I've never had UTZ potato chips, haven't seen them around here but their cheeseballs are very addicting so I don't buy them.

I've heard of UTZ, but I don't think I've ever seen it on the market shelves. I'll look more carefully. These are kinda hard to find. I just order the directly from UTZ and some cheeseballs (donβt tell wickedkittiesmom π) and some of their other chips like their grandma utz reg and bbq flavored or their old bay flavored crab chips. these Carolina bbq chips are kinda like a salt and vinegar chip but with bbq like hints. Really unique if you like tang and I say that as I am not a big salt and vinegar fan. Great with sandwiches!

I kind of like the restaurant style chips you get at Mexican restaurants the most. A lot of them make their own chips on the same day, so they always taste fresh and warm. As far as bagged ones you get at the grocery stores go... I prefer anything that is nacho cheese flavored. Although, I did quit eating Doritos because their TV ads are so stupid. Most of the time I just get the Great Value chips at Walmart -
