Oh look, a British knockoff of Nikki Minaj. Just what we've all been waiting for!
Back on the IMDb forums, some dude had a habit of posting and big-upping British rap, and I always made my feelings known in no uncertain terms.
It's not just that hip hop is uniquely American. It's that hip hop works with the sound and rhythm of American English. When Brits try to rap, most of them either try to ape American accents, or they rap in garbled "chav" accents. It's fucking terrible.
FWIW I feel the same way about French, Greek and Spanish hip hop. And German hip hop is quite possibly the worst of them all...it sounds like angry Klingons barking.

Maybe it's nostalgia talking but I actually liked The Streets' Original Pirate Material. There was something very earnest about it and sincerity counts a lot when it comes to rap music (or any music) for me. It was something unusual and unique as well. His flow and technique were lacking, the production was cheesy, but it had heart. I can appreciate that.

I can't think of a lot of British hip-hop I like, but this was one of the best tracks of last year, I reckon.

Don't get me wrong, all the other brit rap is steaming piles of shit but that Streets album was decent even if you don't use gear.
