About 5 or so years ago I asked around about a blu-ray player that could handle region 1 and region 2 discs. The answer I got most often was that there not many and what existed was not reliable. So, I am looking again. Best Buy seems to have a lot of models available. Anyone have any experience with this kind of player? Are they improved at this point? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'm interested in the same sort of thing, I've read that 4K players are Region free, and if they're not you can go into settings on your player and make it so. I'm at work right now, so I see an experiment in my future once I'm home tonight. I want to add the Keira Knightley movie Official Secrets to my collection; but the only bluray available is a Region 2 disc. Hopefully this will work, I'll let you know what I figure out.

I've got a Blu Ray player that has been reconfigured so that you can switch regions with the buttons on the remote. Believe it or not though, I haven't really had an opportunity to use it for Blu Ray as all the films I've wanted were on DVD.

I got one (Sony) and it is a configurated US model, which plays now US discs and most European ones, but at times - mostly DVDs - it refuses to play them (it's rather rare, but it happens). But I got also a European blur ray player - more or less same model, the remote control works for both, and I just switch the model. Since blu ray player are not that expensive, and you got one with your Play Station etc. pp., I would just buy a player from the region you need.

Unless I'm mistaken...
DVDs have region numbers. Blu-rays have region letters.
A Region 1 DVD is "locked" for North American players. A Region A Blu-ray is similarly playable only in North American players.
