I won't post the picture of the album cover, but I remember reading about this metal band out of Norway called Mayhem. Back in the early 90's their singer blew the top of his head off with a shotgun. His body was discovered by the band's guitar player who photographed the scene. The photograph was used as the cover of the next album. The guitar player also collected bits of the skull fragments and made necklaces for the other members of the band. I guess this disgusted the bass player so much that he ended up quitting the band. Two years later the replacement bass player ended up stabbing the guitar player to death. Kinda makes Fleetwood Mac's internal problems seem a bit trivial.

Tell me about it. It was funny because the bass player that was so disgusted that he quit was called Necrobutcher. I guess if you gross out someone who calls himself Necrobutcher you've really done something.

It was used on a bootleg album, not an official release. It does mean Euronymous(the guitarist) shared the pictures with others so they could use them. Those early black metal days with Mayhem and Burzum really gave it its reputation. But yeah, its not a great album cover to see pass by in your iTunes list.

The replacement bass player who killed the guitar player was also in Burzum who put out this EP. Album cover is the remains of a church he burnt down. Initial copies of the EP came with a Zippo lighter with the image printed on it.

Nobody at the record company thought about this? Not one person said "Umm, about the title. Maybe we can rephrase it. Some people might take it the wrong way."?
It gets better. A track on the album is titled "Gay Gordons"

I own the reissue of "Toxic Rain" by Holy Mother. The original cover is most definitely bad; it looks like they spent $1.98 on it. The reissue cover is much better. Original:Reissue:

I own four Metal Church albums but this is not one of the them. Album covers don't get much worse than this.
